Another month has sped by and its already October. I have had fun watching and reading about everyone's progress over that past several weeks. I finally got my floor loom warped and am weaving on the rose path towels. How many of us are working on presents for the holidays? Will there be enough tie to get everything done? Weave on!

Yesterday (Wed) I threaded and wove my hemp fabric samples. I'm pleased with the result and can begin planning the project. I don't anticipate getting it on the loom until sometime in Dec, but at least I now have a plan. Of course, if I go pick up a loom I have in storage I could get started sooner. Only 4 looms in the studio, what's another one?

Hi I am slowly rounding down the two edges of my new 25 inch warping sticks I bought 24 and am working on them one or two at a time... I bought pine screen molding from home depot and need to round the two edges and sand each one 1/4 inch thick and 25 inches long each.  got about 4 done so far. I am watching Slots and Holes video to learn using the warping board.and warping my new loom...guess its gonna take a while...but I will be weaving soon I hope.

I'm finishing up one last piece to take to Trailing of the Sheep in Hailey.  If you're ever in Idaho the second weekend of October, it's a great event!  Workshops, music, dance, food (lamb, of course), shearing, sheep dog trials, vendor show where everything must be sheep/wool related, and sheep running down the main street of Ketchum, normally an up-scale resort town.  Can't wait for next weekend...

No weaving, but lots of looking at weaving. Going to Greece and Turkey tomorrow . Wonderful history and of course the carpet weavers in Istanbul! Will take Pic's!

trip Cathie - looking forward to pictures! Working on towel number 3 on the rosepath warp and just pulled some 8/2 to start warping the RH. Woohoo!

We had one sprout up in one of our bathrooms, leading to massive flooding. The light fixtures became waterfalls between the upper and the lower level. Once the water was shut off and the plumber came to make the fix, then a fleet of industrial dyers were positioned along with a huge dehumidifer. The Weaveatorium carpet got a bit wet in places, but the looms are okay. Insurance adjuster coming Tuesday, so we'll know more this week. Very lucky to be home when this happened, to minimize the damage. Believe it or not, the lights that became waterfalls still work, as does our electronic bathroom scale, which was drowning on Thursday afternoon. Weave on!

So glad the Weaveatorium is ok Sally, but what a drag! You never know when the Water Gremlins are going to strike! You're right, good you were home! Tina, how are you're weft experiments going on the rosepath towels? Noticing a difference? Sounds like you're on a roll!

endorph

about your geyser Sally - glad the weavatorium escaped any major damage. The experiments are going well CAthie - SO far I have the double 16/2 in a double shuttle - very nice, and two strands of 16/2 wound together on one qill - also very nice. I am now weaving with the 8/2 - can tell the difference on the wrong side (the side facing me) - haven't looked on the right side yet!

Oh noes!  I am SO sorry about the plumbing problems, but what a good thing you were home.  I've had similar things happen, and they are just no fun to deal with.  Glad the looms are OK.

loomyladi (not verified)

It would be nice to have it fall somewhere else though.  Glad you were home to catch the problem!  Knowing you, from this you will make lemonade.

I have received a 4.5 yard 8/2 unmercerized cotton warp as part of a towel challenge.  The warp is hand dyed (See Blazing Shuttles on FaceBook).  I'm limited to a 20" width at the present time so I could use ideas for a pattern to showoff this warp.  We are permitted to add to or subtract from the warp.  I only have white 8/2 unmerc in stock so anything else will need to be purchased and I'm ok with that.  Any thoughts?

warp loomyladi - I am still plodding along on the rosepath towels - I have managed to weave at least a little bit everyday this month. Cant believe it is the 11th already!

like I have been neglecting this group - sorry! I have finished towel number three and am into towel number four. Looking at the warp that is left on the loom I might squeeze out five??? I did not sample as much as originally planned so have some extra warp. Need to update my project page. Tomorrow I start a four day workshop with Joanne Hall so I will have four days of many hours of weaving - yippee! The dogs are going to the kennel so all I have to worry about is weaving. Weave on everyone!

sally orgren

I am started on towel #6 and think I may squeeze out 7 towels from this warp. Or, 6 towels and some fabric to make gew-gaws with, like eyeglass cases, tissue packs, etc. The holiday guild sale is coming up fast, so I need to develop inventory! How about everyone else?

loomyladi (not verified)

Have you posted that pattern?  If not, can you send to me?  I would love to create that look in green & white!

loomyladi (not verified)

I'm going to be daring (in my opinion) and set that hand dyed warp as a waffle weave (I cleaned off a wider loom just for the occassion) and see what happens to the colors.  It will be incredibly interesting I think!  Wound a warp for tartan scarves.  I'm excited to see how they come out and since the towels are going on the 26" loom, I can warp the tartan on the 20" Purrington - hopefully tonight!  Planning a trip this weekend to PA and thinking it might have to involve the Coverlet Museum in Bedford and the Mannings in New Bedford.  I need to end up in Carlisle anyway so these stops make the perfect circle!

three inches woven on towel number four - also got my bag packed for the workshop tomorrow - hope I remembered everything. I will put in the bottle of water in the morning. Four days of weaving - woohoo!

sally orgren

You can find the project post here for the 4 shaft version. (8 shaft is more dramatic). Handwoven, Sept. 2008 also has an article/draft.

Remember, the trick is changing the sett in the twill areas so they raise up. For this fabric, I sett the background at 2 or 3 per dent in an 8 dent reed, but for the twill accent stipes, I crowded 5 in one dent.

of four in Joanne Hall's art weaves class is done. We started at 9 this morning - I got home about 7:30 We did have a lovely home cooked family style dinner - Tonight's menu included baked chicken breast in a green chili sauce, green salad with an avocado / cilantro dressing, black bean and corn salad, fresh salsa and corn chips. MMMMMMMM good! Tomorrow is homemade chicken and vegetable pot pie! Will try to get some photos posted later.

pammersw

Endorph, what part of the world do you live in where green chile sauce is on the menu? I thought that was a New Mexico thing!

endorph

I am in Central Texas - and since it was part of a home cooked meal not surprising - you don't find it very often around here much is the pity!

pammersw

Ah, we're neighbors, then, Internet-speaking. :) Only a few hundred or so miles away.

sally orgren

Not sure where in NM yet, the only part I haven't visited is Taos, believe it or not.  I LOVE LOVE LOVE green chile sauce and the sopillias you can only get in NM. Hot, pillowy, baked golden and served with honey. The chilie sauce is best eaten freshly made, but since I live in NJ, I bring it back in jars. You guys are just lucky to live a lot closer to the source! And I am not sure why everyone else thinks sopillias should be flat, cold, crunchy and served with cinnamon sugar and ice cream.

As I am not traveling this weekend, I have been weaving small increments on Bandit, and I hope to finish the shadow weave towel warp by week's end.

pammersw

Hey, you will have to stop by and say hi! I'm in the Albuquerque area, so whether you're flying or driving, you pretty much have to come this way. :)

Would you mind picking up a plentiful and inexpensive used Macomber for me back east, and drop it off here?  LOL, if only I Could order a loom that easily.  :D

endorph

today I wove Krabbasnar, Dukagang and am into my monks belt section. I wounf the warp forward so I could see the entire front of my piece - everything  is woven from the back - two more days to go - I also include a photo of our workshopspace.

endorph

photo that includes the sample we are working off of - obviously my colors are different and I threw in a coupld of Krabba borders that aren't in the sample.

sally orgren

The loom room is amazing! For some reason I thought Joanne was coming to your location, but when I saw the loom room, I am thinking this must be someplace else!? Impressive site!

Were the looms warped for you, or was that part of the process? How are you threaded?

Wonderful!

endorph

came to us - the workshop is at Fiber Crafts at Homestead Heritage in Elm Mott Texas. We are actually set up in their community hall since the shop was too small. The looms were already warped for us. A mix of counter balance and jack looms. I was a lucky one and am on a counter balance loom. Those on the jack looms can't do the Dukagang and Monk's Belt on the threading we have. We are doing the Monk's Belt with pickup using half heddle sticks. One of the jack looms is threaded for Mink's Belt by treadling and one is set us for Dukagang by treadling instead of pick up. We are threaded in a straight draw. I finished my sampler this after noon so am trying a couple different Krabba patterns and I think I will do another Dukagang as well,. We are weaving again tomorrow! I have plenty of warp to play with - some are doing plain weave to make a back to create a tote bag out of their sampler. I just want to play and will probably make a wall hanging out of mine! I a off to graph out a couple of patterns for tomorrow. ETA - Joanne will be here again, I think the first week in March, for a one day Inkle class and then a four day round robin.

My weaverly activity is a trip to The Mannings in East Berlin, PA.  Nothing really specific in mind, but I was going to be within in 100 miles anyway.  Can I pick up anything for you all??

endorph

cut off the loom - still need to figure out how I am going to finish thie - think it will become a wall hanging for my office.

I think the colors are wonderful! I just want to reach out and touch it!

Long time passing.  Admit it, you hummed along.  I hope those that are missing are being weaverly and not totally MIA.  I looked at the calendar today and experienced momentary panic.  I will be moving in about 46 days!  Perhaps I should not have spent the last two days warping and weaving on tartan scarves?  I'm running 8/2 tencel in the MacLaclan plaid.  I wasn't happy with the sett after sampling so I reslayed from 24 epi to 20 epi and it looks good.  I did not do another sample, the weaving showed almost to square and the shrinkage of tencel is minimal.  After I finish this first scarf I will measure and make any adjustments in picks that are necessary for the next one.  I have family requests which will keep me weaving on these things for sometime.  See photo in next post (I can't seem to get photos to appear in a post).  Tonight I will begin boxing up books in the studio.  I will move and unpack them this weekend so I will have access to them, although it will be inconvenient since they will be 3 hours away!  This will be my opportunity to lighten the load in the studio - - - will I?  Probably not!

Back from Greece and Turkey, sometime yesterday and ready to weave:) Istanbul had amazing rugs, bought two small ones different techniques. When they arrive I'll get close up pix and post them. Everyone's been busy. I'm going through withdrawal. No weaving for almost 3 weeks! Tapestry Diary for November is being set up and a run of 5 baby blankets are in the works. Will start warping for both of those projects this week. ( sampling for baby blankets) Tina, LOVE, your sampler from Joanne's workshop! Loomyladi, I'm a sucker for a tartan ( I 'm a McEown) and the MacLachlan Is a beauty!

ReedGuy

We are still around, but in my instance, work in the bush makes it impossible to stay awake and alert enough to be on the loom through the week. Plus the fatique factor from bush work. I have a table cloth warp on, but not began threading. It's an experiment more than anything. However it turns out, I'll use it somewhere, somehow. I think sett of this piece is going to be crucial in the drape. Too much sett and it may be like a sheet of heavy paper. LOL :)

endorph

through the rose path warp - about five ore inches to weave on the fifth towel and then I will make a small dish rag with the left over warp - I have a dish cloth warp ready to go onto the loom next - it has been sitting around for nearly a year so it is time for it to be woven!

pammersw

I rented a loom last night!  I pick it up Saturday, as the lady who has it now lives about an hour away. I will have use of a 4 shaft Baby Wolf for two months.  Now to decide what to make first!

endorph

great news pammersw - I am sure you will have fun with the baby wolf. Keep us posted on what you are weaving

MMs-and-OOs-Ha…

I participate in a guild of sorts in the Weaver's Barn at the Antique Gas and Steam Museum in Vista, CA. Amazing place, over 50 looms in one large barn, some historic but most in use by weavers. We do a lot of rugs. I am planning what to do with the 24 shaft 48" AVL Compu-dobby that nobody has going. I want to put on a project, maybe scarves that all can try weaving.

endorph

towels WILL be coming off the loom tonight - tomorrow I warp!

Artistry

Anticipation as I await the cotton for the baby blanket sampling !

endorph

towels are off the loom - you can see the whole length here http://weavolution.com/project/endorph/rosepath-towels - now they need to be finished, that will have to wait for a day (week) or two! Tomorrow I warp.

Artistry

Tina, The towels look fantastic! Warping tomorrow? You're a weaving marvel!

endorph

I am putting a warp on the loom that has been waiting patiently since this time last year!
