Tie up discovery

I've had my 40" 8 shaft Macomber for 6 years and just make a great discovery. I decided to see if lifting the shafts while tying up would be easier. What a difference! It's much easier to see and therefore, much faster.

Seeing is always nice, isn't it!  Glad you figured out something that's easier on your eyes.  We weavers do give them challenges.

I'm confused.  How does lifting a shaft help with the tie up?  When I tie mine up, I pull the lamm down to put the hooks on it.

I took pictures to show you why visibility is better with shafts raised but I
can't see how to post pictures. If you raise all the shafts at once and keep
them raised, the lamms are lowered which makes differentiating them easier and the hooks go in easier as well.

Michael kindly showed me this link as I was having the same difficulty. I hope this helps.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E5ltD2y86MU

Thanks. Actually I clicked on reply and got this so I'm going to select the insert image icon and see what happens. This shows the tie up area with all the shafts elevated. I find it much easier and faster to hook them this way.

I'll add that one to my own bag of tricks.  Good to know.

Yes this works great with the super hooks but not with the old style hooks were you have to see the holes.

Do the super hooks fit over the lamms of an old style hole tie up?

I have a 1947 loom- works great and I love the back hinge treadles.

Hi! I just got a little 8 inch Structo Artcraft with 8 harnesses (shafts) and another castle ready for 4 more! Anyone have harnesses ( or is it shafts ) for it? It is heavy. I know it is small and was also $$$ but I had to have it. I also got a little 4 inch for my collection. I believe it is the Hoby model- this makes 2 of the little guys in my collection. Paint is chipping off. Don't think I can do anything about that.

Will fit (tight) but will also change your shed. It will not be as big as when using the old style hooks.
