Title: "Purple Onions Make Me Cry"
Woodstock Weavers Guild challenge for 2009: "Weave a piece using a color you hate." While I don't hate any color in particular, I feel that purple is so overused as to become trite, hence this piece. I took an overshot workshop from Rita Hagenbruch in January, and used that opportunity. The draft is based on the traditional Wandering Vine four shaft overshot, as modified and called "Cat Tracks and Snail Trails" in the book "Overshot is Hot" by Madelyn van der Hoogt and Alexis Xenakis. Rita and I changed the draft a bit more and I used the reverse side as my display side to make this table runner. By reversing the lift sequence at each color change, I got onion "sets" as well as the sliced onion shapes as seen in the photos. Second photo shows the reverse side, with the "cat tracks." Third photo is a close up of the onion side.
