And by the way, the shipping fees are very reasonable and his service is quite fast.    - Sally

Great Idea!

I had new ratchets made for my Eureka last summer at at machine shope here, probably more expensively ($90 each).  However, the Eureka is a rug loom, and the warp is under extreme tension.  The shop had a giant wind chime outside; the bells were the tops to gas cylinders.

These are plastic, but pretty sturdy. Not sturdy enough for a rug loom, but would work for table looms or some other small DIY loom project that you have in mind. He can make them in metal, but I have no idea what that would cost. The plastic set is $29.

If you have a metal shop with plasma cutter, and a staff willing to cater to small fries, than they can make a set in no time and reasonably priced. Some shops will just brush you off. The local ones here have gotten too used to government ways of business. I got mine done in my travels.

Mine were cut on a water jet machine, which was a lot cheaper than the plasma cutting operation.

Depends on the shop I suppose. Mine were cut on plasma cutter for $90 a pair. I think this conversation has come up before. Feels like déjà vu anyway. :)

Notes

For those of you who work on looms, I wanted to let you know of a source I've found for ratchet and pawl sets. There is a community of people who do 3D printing and one of the members, Railroad Tom, designed this ratchet and pawl set to my specs and printed it up for me in strong plastic. It is available for purchase directly from him, or you can have him make one up to your specs. I'm using it for my 3d weaving. Tom lives in Germany and is very nice to work with. He does drawings for you to review and approve, and there is a small design fee for that. I have already paid for the design fee for this set, so you can just purchase it. He can also print in metal, but the price would be considerably more. Here is the link: https://www.shapeways.com/product/SSJ2TXEAP/ratchet-mechanical-part-for-a-3d-weaving-loom?optionId=62898867
