What kinds of ecclesiastical weaving does everyone do?  In addition to the stole I'm trying to weave, I've also done an altar cloth, with matching fabric for the lecturns, and baptism towels.  In fact, I just got the latest batch of baptism towels out of the dryer and pressed.  You can see the project details here, but I've included the pics in this post too.

I am a new weaver but some day hope to make some nice things for my church,  our altar cloths are quite outdated but that is out of my reach right now!

Your work is very nice, thank you for posting the closeup too!

I've gotten behind in checking my forums!  Thanks for the compliment.  The towel really doesn't look as wrinkled in real life.  The nice thing about weaving altar cloths is that you don't have to worry about the selvedges.  At least with mine, all edges were cut and hemmed.  My biggest worry was the sewing.  I still cringe when I look at the ones I wove because I don't think I did a very good job sewing the fringe on (my church really wanted fringe).  The fabric is a little puckered underneath it because it didn't feed through the sewing machine right.  But then again, the set they had professionally made at the same time has the same problem.

Baptism towels - what a lovely idea and so special to have a handmade one.  I like the weave you've used.

Thanks.  I've made them with other lace designs too.  When I found this one on handweaving.net after I got my 16 shaft dobby loom, I thought it would be perfect.

Beautiful towels. I never tried towels but I did make baptismal bibs and embroidered them with a clam shell and water droplets.

Tina, they are truly lovely!  Could you either upload the draft or tell us which one it is on "handweaving.net?"

Our deacon tells me they need some nice place-holders for the altar books.  I am going to look into that one.

At present, I need to come up with the annual "Confirmation bookmarks" and some stoles I want to make for an annual commemoration of Johnathon Daniels.

PS In case nobody knows who he was:  Johnathon was an Episcopal seminarian who came to Selma during the CR struggles in 1965.  He was arrested in nearby Hayneville, Al while registering voters, along with several other workers, including a young teenager named Ruby Sales.  When they were released after several days in the (really wretched) jail there, they went to get a cool drink at a local grocery, where they were accosted by some men with guns.  One of them took aim at Ruby and JOhnathon pushed her out of the way and was killed.  He's honoured in the Episcopal church as "Blessed" Johnathon Daniels and we hold a gathering each August in Hayneville, followed by a Eucharist in the courthouse.   I love it that we have this sacred event  commemorating ALL the Civil Rights martyrs in that place where so much injustice was dealt out!

Anybody else notice that sentences are getting cut off?  Maybe it's just this browser?

I included the link in my post, although it was just the word "here" so it was probably easy to miss.  Here it is again:  www.weavolution.com/node/5450.  The repeat for the 2 hearts (one with warp floats and one with weft) is 58 ends, so I think they'd make nice bookmarks.  You could always use just one of the hearts if you want narrow bookmarks but are using a thicker yarn.

Please post pictures of what you make.

Sometimes I read too fast and fill in missing words (sometimes the wrong words, though, LOL).  Can you tell me which sentences you think are getting cut off?  Is it always on the right side?  If so, maybe you have a scroll bar on the bottom.  Give me more details and I'll report them to the dev team (I'm a member) as a possible bug.
