This is so beautiful. I like everything about it - the colors and the pattern are very appealing. I guess I need to learn about echo weave.

What a beautiful scarf to feast your eyes one! A work of art.

what do you call this structure? It looks a bit to me like what Americans call "Crackle" (or Jamtlandsvav?)

The technique is developed by Marian Stubenitsky. It is called 'woven irisdescence' and she copywrited it. Her website is www.weefschool.nl

It does look like crackle!  But it appears to be what Stubetsky calls "echo-4".  The resulting 4-thread blocks are not quite crackle blocks. There are no incidentals. As with crackle, the treadling uses tabby and pattern wefts.  For a detailed description, see Weaving with Echo and Iris (2014), pp. 36-37.

Neeltje, drafts can certainly be copyrighted.  But I don't believe weaving structures can be, and I suspect that drafting "techniques" fall somewhere in between.  This is just one of several techniques that Stubenitsky groups as "woven iridescence".

The copyright declaration in her book states that no part of it can be reproduced by any method without permission, and it is quite clear.  It does not say anything about techniques or use of the goods made from the drafts.  Not sure where the idea that the technique or ideas are copyrighted, and I don't think you can copyright something that isn't tangible; written or recorded music, film, books, etc.  At least not in the US.

Notes

This shawl was woven on 4 shafts. The warp colours are yellow, red, purple and green/turkoois. 100 % mercerised cotton and 14 thread per cm.
The weft colour is lilac and  cotton/wool . I designed it with Fiberworks. In the fringes I added a lilac thread.
Other photos of this workshop are shown on my website. www.justfibers.net

I attended a workshop given by Marian Stubenitsky www. weefschool.nl  She developed this technique and it is copywrited.
