As a new weaver I am stumped with a project "Wandering Vine" Table Runner by Ton Knisely. Knowing it's by Tom makes me certain I'm just not understanding. I have 454 warp ends to sley in 18 11/12" The instructions say to use a sett of 24 epi (2/dent in a 12 dent reed). So, how  many threads/heddle?

Thank you in advance for any help that is given.

Where did you see this pattern?  Is it in a book or on line?  I'd be glad to take a look at it.  Typically its 1 thread per heddle, and the pattern should tell you how to thread it.

This sounds like an ambitious project for a beginner!  I'm looking forward to seeing your progress.

The pattern can be found online on Weaving Today's  freebies. And, yes, it is beautiful.

Thanks for the response.

I would assume one thread per heddle.  Density is determined by how many ends in the dent.  If you look at the threading, how many threads are shown for the pattern?

sandra.eberhar…

Your question is a little confusing becase you start out talking about ends per inch (24) which is the end per dent in the reed, then you ask how many threads per heddle.  Are asking about sett or threading?

Since the thread goes through the dent, and then the heddles, I suppose I'm asking about the heddles. I guess I don't know the difference between the threading & the sett.

You normally thread one warp end per heddle and then at the reed your sett (width wise) is determined by the dents of the reed and how many warp ends in each dent. A 12 dent reed had 12 dents per inch, if you put two ends per dent you get 24 ends per inch across the width of the cloth. This will involve taking 2 warp ends coming from the two heddles, being adjacent to one another, and placing them together in each dent. :)
