Cartoon for Rug - rewoked design from photo of sidewalk pavine in slateKnotted Pile Rug

Just taking time for a few bragging rights. After nearly 2 years on the loom, this rug is completed. The image was derived from a photo of some unusual paving in slate found in a book from an oriental rug dealer. The geometry was interesting, so I scanned, pixel cleaned it, added color and added a meander border. The natural colored weft pile is Karakul, handspun from raw fleece purchased from Leltty Klein.

Still need to even the pile, scrape out loose short fiber, make the fringe "pretty" and wash it.

Such a lovely rug, Sara!  You must be deeply satisfied with how it turned out. The pile just reaches out from the photo -- How long will it be when you finish it?  Will your feet get to enjoy its plushness, or is this a piece for elsewhere?  What's next for you now that it's finished?

Great rug!  I'm so happy to see someone doing knotted pile besides my very occasional dabbling in it!  Ditto with the handspun in rugs.

What knot did you use?

I love the design, the design's history, and your rug!  Would love to hear move about your technique as I'm in a pile state-of-mind these days.

This is also an illustration of what I'll be presenting at Convergence about proportions/aspect ratio in weaving - calculating that cartoon so that the rug looks pretty much like the picture when finished.

Sara, well done.  This is a beautiful rug.  I looked at your other photographed projects.  I love all of them.

Your combinations of geometric shapes, and their placements and the mazes within are wonderful.  Your colors just make me happy!
