I'm having so much fun with this structure! I've been using a lovely book in Norwegian as inspiration,  Anne Grete Sandstad Åklær - å kle ei seng, å veve et åkle, åkletradisjonen i Sør-Trøndelag, and Damask and Omphamta as instruction. I put on a narrow (10 1/2 inch) sample warp. 16/2 ground at 40 epi on 2 shafts and 4 pattern shafts. . Look forward to picking up the drawloom in April!

I lived in Norway for a year when I was 8 years old - - and so all things Norwegian make me so happy - thanks for brightening up my morning.

Are you weaving on a standard floor loom?  I do not understand how you have created your cloth but I really like it.  You are going to rock your drawloom if you are doing this on a standard loom.

You're welcome, lol. If you get a chance to look at the book, you will really appreciate it. Next time up, a coverlet size is in order!

Yes, standard loom with an additional 'harness' rigged behind the pattern heddles. This is my Berga Savonia (made by Varpa) and I love it. I've since added a Glimakra 12 shaft CM system to increase its versatility. Here's a side view.

Hi Shawn,

That is a very nice sampler.  Yes, you will really enjoy the drawloom.

I frequently include the Småland sample in workshops that I teach, but it has to be at a place where we can set up a counterbalance or countermarch loom.  Some shops and some schools do have them and it is fun for weavers to try this when they have not done it before.

ShawnC,

This is absolutely gorgeous weaving.  Do you read Norwegian or is the book you reference otherwise understandable?  From you loom photo are the two rear harnesses the "double" harness used for the pattern?  Wow and neato!

ShawnC

Thanks so much, Joanne! It would be great if more folks could see this structure set up. It's not as hard as I thought. Time consuming, but not hard. And can be done with a standard CB or CM. I'm so excited to finally be trying some of the double harness weaving. The patience I'm practicing should help with the drawloom. Is it April yet??

ShawnC

MissusT, I wish I read Norwegian. Would love to read the first part of the book on history, etc. But drafts are universal, right? And the description in Damask and Omphamta is quite good and my copy is in English. The double harness part of the equation=2 sets of shafts. The front harness is 4 shafts with long-eyed heddles for the pattern and the back harness is 2 shafts with regular heddles for the plain weave ground.

Oh boy! That is going along quite well. Nice pattern. It is very interesting to following to see how it is woven. Thanks for sharing with us. I have only read about it from these forum groups when mostly you began writing about it. I'm always open to new weave techniques. :)

ReedGuy,

You would love it! Really quite simple once you get it figured out. Already planning the next warp though this one is quite long.

ReedGuy

Some day I'll probably study it out further. :)

Thanks again.
