Hello, I'm Iseaulte in the SCA and I live in the East Kingdom and also play in AEthelmearc.  I've been spinning for over 20 years and weaving for 10+ years.  One of my current projects is spinning yarn that will be woven into to 2 14th style liripipe hoods.  one for me and one for my husbands protoge.

Hello everyone!

I'm Jahanarabanu Vivana in the SCA, yep I use my SCA name for all my online stuff. I have been in the SCA for 14 years, and that sounds so crazy to say! I'm in Drachenwald now (for the past 5 years), Calontir before that. I am best know for the fact that I have about 20 looms, most of them small looms. I've been weaving since I was about 12, my mom taught me and some day I'll get to ship her looms over here.

I am currently house shopping and the two main considerations are the size of the fenced yard for my dog, and which house in my price range has the best weaving studio space!

Hi I'm Sagadis Ducan's Daughter and I've been in the SCA since 1981 and lived in several different kingdoms.  I'm currently in Dracanwald and am friends with Jahanara.  I don't have quite as many looms as she does, but I probably have more spinning wheels, about five last time I counted.  I sell tablet weaving within the SCA and on my website and for fun I play with my four shaft Baby Wolf Loom.  I'm currently working on pieceing together some handwoven fabric for a Viking Tunic for my husband and a Viking Apron Dress for me.  In reality it is more like my friend Jenny (who will probably join this list once she gets home) is figuring out how we can use such narrow bits of fabric and still get the cloths made.  She's in "The Vike UK " and been weaving, spinnging and dying for many years (and does patterns a lot better than me.

She's doing a dye workshop at our event this weekend, all things going well.  Hopefully we will get some pretty colors I can post.

Hi all!

I'm Siobhán de Bhaldáithe. I've been in the SCA on and off for about 10 years, now it's mostly off. I belong to Drachenwald (Nordmark) and I've just finished a "viking" coat for my 2 year old daughter in handwoven cloth. I'm so happy with it, and and I'll post a picture once I've found the battery for the camera.

I really enjoy weaving cloth for garb, but I don't really like sewing. In the past, I used to tablet weave a lot, and I hope to take that up again.

In my part of the world, I don't know that many people in the SCA who weave on floor looms, those who weave mostly weave with tablets or riggid heddle looms. I look forward to hearing how it works in other kingdoms.

I'm not currently in the SCA, but I've been considering it for a few years now.  I live in an area that is part of Northshield.

I'm a little on the shy side so I think that's what has been holding me back from joining as I don't know anyone else that is part of the local Barony.

It would be nice to join a group where some people are actually weaving though (the local guild doesn't appeal to me at all).

I'm looking forward to getting additional information from this group though.

Hi, I'm Leofwyn Weaver, in Carolingia, East Kingdom. Mundane life has been keeping me away from a lot of SCA activity, but I am hoping to get more active in early 2010. I sell block-print fabrics and saris purchased in India, but I am hoping to add more of my own weaving to my own garb and eventually to the store. I am interested in the transition from warp-weighted looms to horizontal looms in England, so my persona travels around 900-1100 and hasn't settled down on a more specific place and time yet. I am getting ready to weave myself a pair of winingas, and hope to get the warp-weighted loom set up again now that I have rented studio space. I've also just purchased a counterbalance loom because my beloved jack looms portray a technology that was not invented until the 1920s.

The cool thing about dealing with India is that there is still (for the next five minutes, anyway) a functioning handweaving culture there, in which regional weaves and regional materials produce unique fabrics. It has taught me a way of thinking about the fabrics and fabric names of the pre-Industrial Revolution weaving culture in Europe that I find priceless but not yet quite expressible in words. When you start to see some classic regional style now being woven in a different region, or the way the growing conditions affect the available fibers and the humidity and water affect the spun threads and how the qualities of those threads affect the weave, all of a sudden there's this epiphany about fabric being SO much more than "fiber content" as we use the term now (cotton, linen, wool, worsted) and weave. So I am also working on a project for how to say that more coherently.

My favorite SCA event every year is Hrim Schola at Frosted Hills -- the annual string-geek fest. But I'd like to see more events for weavers to play together.

Among my failings as a human being: I still can't seem to knit or to card-weave.

Hi I am Kateline Eliot in Society. I have been active in the SCA for about 5 years and live in the Midrealm. I have just started spinning and just purchased my first loom so I am very new to both of these activities. I have done some tablet weaving and I sew all of the garb for the family and a lot of friends. My goal is to eventually weave the fabric for the garb that I make.

I am also the pursuivant, webmistress, and autocrat for our shire so the last thing I needed was to take up another hobby but this one makes me very happy:) I look forward to learning from the more experienced on the list.

Hello I'm Meadhbh bean mhic Bradaigh, and have been in the SCA for 5 years now in the East.  I took the advanced multi-shaft weaving class at Pennsic 3 years ago and I got HOOKED!  I also spin, and I just wish there was more time in the day for me to do these two activities, since it currently takes me months to finish anything.

Hi, I'm Virag and have been in the SCA since 1993.  I'm in Atlantia and enjoy weaving, spinning, dyeing, felting, and heavy combat.  I have a simple blog at www.ladyvirag.wordpress.com and am having a blast writing up my misadventures with fiber.  My obsession with felting has also lead to an obsession with Central Asian weaving and looms.

I'm working on some tablet weaving at the moment. Gearing up to make some trim for a friend's garb. YAY! (not)

Right now I'm just using some cheap cotton but the trim will probably be silk.

Hi I'm Milly,

Just joined and so new to weaving. I bought a table loom last December but haven't learned to use it yet. It has been very difficult to coordinate lessons. I don't know too many other weavers in my area so I am going to have to go it alone I think. I also spin and knit and have been doing that for about 3 years.

I am looking forward to meeting other weavers and learning all that I can.

Hello

I just found out about the website so just joined.  I was trying to post a  new thread but it kept telling me to choose a forum; there are only two options - SCA Weavers, and Group Forum, I tried both twice and kept getting the same message.  Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong?

If you went to your local group, you'd meet people and THEN you'd know someone local.  Just a thought. Anne

Hi - I'm new to SCA and am possibly going to be Audrey Webster of Norwich. :)  I'm currently doing tons of research and planning on making my own and my husbands garb.  We are in the Eastern Kingdom, Barony of Beyond the Mountain in the Canton of Fennbrycg.  I think that's right.

Jeanne-Marie from the Outlands here.

I have been weaving for about 16 years now but hav only been playing in the SCA for about 8.  I getthe greatest joy from introducing folks to weaving.  I have been called a fiber pusher once or twice.  Just learned to spin with a drop spindle.

 Hi!

I'm Alessandra da Venizia (Cheryl). I'm in Atlantia. I've been in the SCA for 5 or 6 years, and been weaving for three. I'm head of the Atlantian Clothier's Guild. I'm currently playing with natural dyeing (growing my own dye plants), learning to spin, and getting ready to head to Montana to learn drawloom weaving. I guess I'm a fiber crack-head.

I prefer to weave complex patterns with really fine threads, and have also started to play with double weave. Anyone find any references for doubleweave in medieval europe?

Hello, I am Laurensa Silverlock, and I reside in the Shire of Owlsherst in the East Kingdom. (Mundanely York PA) I am making plans to move to the Barony of Cynnabar in the Middle Kingdom, no later than February of next year. I was hoping to be there before now, but the best laid plans, you know..

I purchased a 6 yard inkle loom from Pine Box Traders at Pennsic last year, and while I haven't had a lot of time to play with it, I already know I love it, and I lust after a box loom from the Spanish Peacock. Space and money are at a premium, so no big looms are in my near future.

I'm also learning card weaving and spent last night making a new set of cards and cutting warp in my heraldic colors of argent and azure.

Califia, Kingdom Caid here...

I am a weaver.  That sounds like an addiction, grin.  Up until now I have been working mostly strap weaving on an inkle loom.  I need to branch out, I have so many designs in my mind to lay out.  I have been seeking diligently for years now any group in my near area that weaves.  Most groups spin or crochet or knit.  I have just taken up Naalbinding as well.  I'm looking forward to following this society thread and hopefully networking my way to more and varied addictions.

So, Nice to meet you all!
