Hi Everyone.  Let's get new threads going -- aren't we all getting tired of scrolling through my HUGE photos (sorry about that).  And does anyone know if there is a way to prevent old stuff from continually being displayed?  If not it seems that the forums could eventually run to many pages...

I'll snoop around the site and see if there is a way, and maybe post a question on one of the administration forums.

Bonnie.

hi Bonnie,

I don't know a lot about it but i found out you can edit your own comment and if wanted replace the photos by smaller ones.    also If you click on new you go straight to the newest comment. I must admit I spent already way to much time here but it is all so interesting to me.

love your weaving

Hi Bonnie,

there will always be new people coming to the thread who would like to see your pictures-please don't remove them! Jeannine says that there is a way to make them smaller. We should all look into that. My gigantic pics are there too! i was thinking about sending messages to the other members as i think that many don't know that these threads exist hidden way down at the bottom of the Forums page. What do you think? it seems that this group has a large membership but only a few voices here.

Hi again Bonnie,

I posted some pics at another forum thread and it is easy to resize the pics if you don't want them so big. i chose 300 by 375 and one pic turned out fine and the other was a little distorted. It's all guesswork for me-I am new at this/ You just select the photo on your upload page and click on resize. Type in the dimensions and hit resize again. Then select the new file and  hit the ''send toFCR editor'' button to post. Hit ok in the new window and that's it.

I sent a message to the Navajo Weaving group administrator and she is going to put out the word to all members about these threads.

Hi Everyone and Laverne.  I did figure out how to re-size a photo before posting (saving) it, but now that those two are there I don't get the little handles that I used before.  Well, it won't happen again now that I know better.

I didn't realize that there is an administrator for every group -- that would likely be the person who starts the group.  Why haven't others introduced themselves, I wonder.

Bonnie.

We are posting a few words about that in the "News" today. I appreciate your comments, it helps to know how people are experiencing our website and ways we can improve. Claudia Co-founder, Weavolution

Web page with pics & articles on file

Over on the backstrap weaving page, Caroline from down under posted a link to a university website that has downloadable files that include pictures of people weaving on Navajo looms.

"Another great resource for weavers, and lacemakers too, is the Arizona University weaving archives here:

www.cs.arizona.edu/patterns/weaving/weavedocs.html

Lots of free info to download, including many of the books and monographs written by Mary Meigs Atwater and Harriet Tidball, who were interested in all aspects of weaving, on or off loom. They recorded a lot of the pick-up designs they saw on their travels through South America. Its like being let loose in a weaving library, hehe! "

Great links Caroline! One of my first favorites is this one

This is a navajo woman weaving a belt
It's a backstrap loom but the strap goes under the thighs and the other beam is up in a tree!
Thank you for the link to cs.arizona, great stuff!

Have a good day!

I have a question for the forum.  I purchased this great book..... "Navajo Weaving Way:  The Path from Fleece to Rug".  This is a great book and has drawings of how to build your own loom.  Well, now that I have a crafted gentleman who could build the frame.....I can't find my book.  Very frustrating.  So, either I have to order a new book.....or hope one of you wonderfully ingenious people know where to get thedirections to build your own rug loom.

I swear if Murphy's Law did not exist, I would be so normal.

Thanks,

Hi Jeannine,

To post pictures, click on the image icon (last one on the above bar.  Once there, click on browse server, it will open a window and at the top of that window, click on "Upload" where you can "browse server" for your pictures or draft or whatever (this works everywhere you can add a picture or a draft).  Just below the box for the "Browse server" are three choices.  Put a check, using your mouse, in the size picture you want, small, medium or large.

Hope that helps.  There directions are also in the Help section under "Uploading pictures".

If you just want the instructions part of the book....go to your library and if they don't have it, order it through ILL. The librarian will know what that is. It's a great book. If you can't get it that way, let me know, I'll xerox the instructions and mail to you.

Thank you Franco.  That is exactly what I need.  The directions in the book didn't have that big box base at the bottom, but I'm sure that can be changed for heavy bottom feet and maybe another cross bar.

Perfect.....Thanks again.

Thank you Caroline.  I found that first link too, when I was browsing the net and trying to find the information myself.  You all came up with some better links than I did though.  My computer at home is soooooo sloowwww!  Work is a very dedicated T1 or better line that is so nice use.  Here in Utah this has been a 3 day Holiday weekend for us, so most of my searching was on my home computer.  It's not a bad computer, just a rural modem connection.......sloooooowwww!  But it works.  I'm washing fiber between opening up these links and looking at them.  The 3rd link most resembles what I remember in the book, only larger.

Thanks Caroline and everyone else who is helping me.  I'm sure I'll be able to share these pictures and the carpenter can come up with the best diminsions.

Happy Weaving,

Peggy in Utah

Good Idea DJ.  I had not thought about that.  I don't think we will have it in our small libraries, but through the inter-library-loan, I might be able to get it somewhere in this State.  I worked in the Library/Testing Center for years, I know the ILL system a little bit.  Most students I worked with wanted instant results, so the college I work with has huge electronic databases of material.  It is more scholastic type material than anything else.

Thanks for the suggestion, it's a great idea and one not used enough.
