So far this month I have been very active on the weaverly stuff. Have finished towels, done a very simple double weave sampler, have a warp wound for dish cloths and am currently working on the project sheet for some dish cloths to match my checked dish towels. Now to get a red moebius cowl warped and woven as a birthday present and two purple ones done for Christmas, and some more checked towels done for Christmas. . ., get the pima cotton for some full sized Acadian towels. . . . . my goal is to keep up the daily weaverliness for the next several weeks. . . . .

the skirt.  I am soooo afraid to cut it :)

I will take Cheryl's advice and make one out of muslin first I think.  In the meantime I will warp some wool for a mohair boucle weft scarf.  Haven't got the nerve to use mohair for the warp yet.  Wow....I have to laugh at myself.  I'm usually not afraid of things but two things in one post...argh!

today but I did get warp ready for a moebius cowl on the RH and working on figuring warp length, warp width, and the yarn amounts needed for some full-sized Acadian dish towels - if I am going to do a swap with Mary I want some decent sized towels to swap with! ;-)  Now to make sure my math is correct before I go and buy yarn!

warped for a third moebius cowl - this one is going to my sister who is giving it away to a friends for a birthday present. . . . whew!

I had to resist the urge to drive to town last night for more sock yarn. Plan A was to use off white as weft in a multi-colored (but mostly dark) warp. Of course, you experienced weavers will realize it just made the warp colors rather dull and lifeless.  Soooo, I unwove the six inches I had done and waited for the store to open this morning. I'm much happier weaving with the matching yarn.  The multiple color changes are creating 1" stripes against the warp which is the same multi although it looks much different, with several 1" stripes of navy.  (Yes, I must dust off the camera; that would be so much easier!)

Cheryl'B

Those colors are beautiful.....can't wait to see it woven.  :)

Chris, I've experienced the same thing you have with the weft colors.  I love the learning curve.

Warped for a mohair scarf last night.  Tonight it's half woven.

LadyBugFixer

I've been weaving almost every day. I hemmed six towels this weekend, and I have started weaving a mohair knotted boucle scarf. I was thinking that this is material for the frightful fibers challenge, but so far, the yarn is behaving very well. I photographed the towels yesterday, and the project page is here: http://weavolution.com/project/ladybugfixer/dish-towels.

I've been avoiding this thread because my first attempt at pictures didn't work, but the fall leaves are blowing away, a storm is coming, so I skipped work and got some shots.  For my first attempt I even had my husband aka TheOldToad help me move my picnic table so I could get a shot in front of a bright red bush that is now bare.  Today, I drove my Subaru about 1/4 mile through my east pasture to get sumac, which doesn't show up.  Sigh . . .

The objects are all Halloweave projects, although I didn't do the

spinning for the shawls during Halloweave.  To the left are the washed locks for the lion's mane,  a small corner of a batt for the commission project, some worsted yarn for the lion body, and a couple of handwoven shawls, both with handspun weft.  The blue, out of Shetland wool, is for sale, but the earth tone one is the one I spun and wove for demos, containing 2 bamboos, banana, corn, cotton, unbleached flax, bleached flax, hemp, nettle ramie, & soy.  Not shown is a "reenactor" purse ("pocket", as in Lucy Luckett lost her pocket), which is cut out but not assembled, in the blue and white.  I got cut glass beads for the center of the diamonds.  Also not shown is anything to do with photoluminescence, on which I have made no progress.  Sigh . . .

Believe it or not, I have been a very good girl, weaving, spinning, or working on drafts even on my deadly Tuesdays (except the one where I failed).  I got the warp in for the commission piece on Big Mac and even have a plan, pending client approval.  I have a plan for Baby, and may write out enough of a draft to thread from and start threading today or tomorrow.  Last night, however, catastrophe struck with the belt on my drum carder breaking.  I had hoped to dye yarn tomorrow.  Another sigh . . .

is beautiful mneligh! The shawls look soft and drapey and lovely.  I am working on a red moebius cowl and will hopefully get warp wound for some dish towels - either more of the Keep It Simple towels or maybe some full sized Acadian towels. I bought the pima cotton yesterday and that may be the next project on Wolfie.  That is assuming I have enough heddles. . .  I think I do - guess I better check that tonight!

mneligh

The Woolery is really fast if you tell them it's a rush.  I'm sure they can send heddles quickly.  I called about the belt this AM, and they made me up 2 and I already have a USPS tracking number.

For just a few heddles you can tie them.  I put headless nails in a board and tie around those so they're uniform.  For 100 heddles it might be faster to buy them.

endorph

remember right I should have 500 on the loom right now - which would give me enough for the Acadian towels - at least when I bought the loom (used) they said there were 500 heddles! If I want to do more of the Swedish towels - which I will at some point - I will definitely need to get  more heddles - I think for that one we used 776 ends! Ill need a new reed too! I am asking for two new reeds for Christmas - hopefully Santa will come through. . . .

I'm away from home this week, but brought portable weaving with me. I won't be able to post pics for a couple days, but I've been doing a little bit of tapestry weaving every day on a small tapestry loom. So far, I'm just practicing a few tapestry techniques I learned many years ago. Having fun!

20 or 25 inches woven on the cowl this evening - that was in addition to being interrupted many, many times by the four footed twins begging for attention. Hard to ignore them!

Cheryl'B

Wet finished the skirt fabric, finished the ends on the rep table runner, will wet finish that tomorrow.  Also making a mock skirt out of muslin to see how things will go with my fabric.  Hope to have the skirt at least partially put together this weekend.

mneligh

Today is warping day. I'll start with Baby.  My daughter wanted a table runner & napkins out of deep red, deep green, royal blue & navy.  I'll put on 8 yards, each band of warp (in red & green) corresponding to an overshot block.  For her I'll weave the blue & navy as ground weft, but I can do red and green for a Christmasy runner as well.

Speaking of Big Mac, pending client approval, the color will grade from cream through gold and red to cocoa in both warp and weft.  Then I'll weave an undulating twill with the amplitude incresing or decreasing along the color gradient.  Big Mac is quite the loom.

Yesterday I did some spinning on the commission piece out of batts I had carded before the belt broke, but mostly worked on assembling the purse.  The beading is done, so all I have left is braiding the drawstrings out of the bamboo warp.

I better deliver an email beating to my son for not solving my photoluminescence problem.  When he was a kid we used to discuss designs for solar air conditioners, and now he designs solar power generation plants.  How hard can photoluminescent dye be?

sally orgren

and frankly, blown away by your industriousness!

mneligh

Productiveness itself is the challenge -- not for the actual things we make as for spending time each day to work towards weaving projects.

endorph

is off the loom waiting for twisting of fringe and wet finishing. Got the RH rewarped a few minutes ago for the Purple Cowl #1 - I am making two in purple for my sister to give as presents -

Cheryl'B

Your sister is one lucky gal!  That is awful nice of you to do this for her and those gift recipients are even luckier yet!

I absolutely love your choice of colors.  What yarns are you using to make those with?

endorph

a mix of yarns - acrylic, synthetic blends, alpaca, wool, whatever I was able to find in the right colorway - I didn't have a lot of choice. With making the two in purple I am trying to vary the yarns since both women live in the same place - and its a small town! Somehow I ended up making towels and three cowls for my sister to give as presents. . . . hmmmmm. She did at least help pay for the yarn and I got increase my stash a bit.

louiseinoz

I've finally managed to get something out of the UFO box and have just posted it under projects.  It's a great feeling and I might have to see what else is in the box and needs some attention

One more FO -- the little purse, made with my Halloweave warp.Purse from Halloweave warp

Cheryl'B

Wow.....very nice.

Half my warp done for the rep weave placemats this morning.....yay!

KarenIsenhower

Tina, I never saw a purple cowl... lol, I couldn't help but think of the old poem...

Looks beautiful, by the way!

endorph

You are not the only one to quote that poem to me!

Cheryl'B

Everybody has made some very beautiful items.  How inspiring it is.  Daily weaverly things has been fun.  I have done a lot of drafting and learning in the process.

I am a bit disappointed I didn't get everything completed as I had hoped.  Came up with 59 ends short for the rep placemats.  Will have to go get some tomorrow, although warping 59 ends will be wonderful because it will be so quick.

It has been a lot of fun and a wonderful experience being able to communicate with others that share this passion.

A big thanks to Weavolution for promoting camraderie.

endorph

I think you have been wonderfully productive - Can't believe the month is almost over!

KarenIsenhower

I agree, it makes it that much more enjoyable to share the journey with others.

My alpaca shawl wove up incredibly fast, even though I felt like I was taking my time to place the weft on every shot. Now, I'm going to untie all the overhand knots I tied, and twist all the fringe, like I should have done in the first place. The twisting will take longer than the weaving, but the results will be worth it.

mneligh

I'm satisfied with all but the photoluminescent project.  The main things I accomplished were

  1. Making solid progress on the lion
  2. Getting an inspired project for Bic Mac -- not complete, but I have the draft, the warp, and some dyed and spun weft.  I've gotten two new belts for my big drum carder and combined with the picker, that really speeds up spinning.
  3. Make the "sampler" shawl for future demos.

The blue shawl and bag were incidental in that the warp was there and I had materials for them so I just made them.  I've also gotten Baby partly warped again with overshot table linen warps.  It could be Christmassy or not, depending on weft.

I also taught a coworker to spin on a drop spindle, which I also made.

I am disappointed about the the photoluminescent dye, though.  I guess at some point I'll just have to get some powder, mix it with a dye, dye some yarn, and then test it.  Sigh . . . My reluctance to do so is a sign of laziness, but how can someone (me) be both hyperactive and lazy simultaneously?
