Wondering what type of weaving related group trips are available overseas?  Also wondering if there any weaving study trips available overseas - learning to weave in a new place would be fun.

Looking forward to hearing what is out there, as I have not found many offerings on the internet.

thanks.

Hello Mai!

How exciting to meet you here. I am still trying to learn all the weaving styles in Central and South America. I am Australian and live in Bolivia. ONE DAY I would love to go to Senegal and study with you and your weavers. I could teach you something from here.

I have enjoyed weaving related trips with the following organizers:

Peru- Puchkaperu, Turkey with Melitours, Morocco with Melitours and Anita Luvera Mayer, and Scotland with The Singing Weaver. I am sure you can find their website on Google. I find more and more fibre info on various websites and festival/events are good sources too.

Hi, I'm planning a trip to Iceland this summer.  Does anyone know of any weaving or fiber places not to miss? Thanks, Ellen

When I searched for weavers and woven textiles in Tuscany, I found a website for a tour that does a little basic weaving, some spinning on the farm with sheep, and some dyes, plus visits to towns nearby, good food, etc.

There is very advanced weaving instruction on manual Jacquard looms at the Lisio Foundation near Florence, Italy. And a small weaving school to the north of Tuscany. I can probably find the name again if needed.

Also there is a weaving school in Sweden.

One that appeals to me is in Norway- I think it happens once each summer.

Pick a region and start searching with carefully chosen key words.

I don't know Iceland but it definitely has sheep and spinning. Let us know if you find something there.

is, of course, home (not "overseas" :-)

Anyway, here are 43 summer courses in "textiles", quite a few about weaving, some with bearing on weaving (processing nettles for fiber, screen printing, recycling textiles, design methods). Most are 4-5 days.  These are all from "folk schools" all over Sweden.

Stockholm has Handarbetets vänner, they also offer summer courses in weaving.

A private enterprise, with a good reputation.

There are probably a lot more...
