Anyone got it yet?  How is it?  Does it fix all the issues with the CD3?  Is it worth the expense to upgrade from the CD3?

I bought it as an upgrade, and while it required some tuning on AVL's part to make it run faster (I'm a pretty fast weaver), it solved all the issues I was having with my CD III.  I'm happy with my purchase, and the support I've gotten from AVL on it.  I'd do it again.

I'm a first time user of an AVL loom.  I received my loom with the CD4 in early Aug.  So far I've had no problems with the CD4.  I am weaving my 5th warp on the loom now.

I’ve doing some beta testing for AVL by upgrading my FDL from a mechanical dobby straight to a CD4 and it is great!  The only problem I’ve had was that there were no instructions on removing the mechanical dobby and attaching the CD4. By going back to the web site and down loading the instructions for upgrading to a CD2 and modifying I was soon up and running.  I love the ease of use and that my no longer limited to the number of peg bars in a design!  I do worry about later this winter when we lose power (a regular occurrence in my area). I’ll just have to keep my other looms threaded as back up.

Tien, can you speak more of the tuning to make the response faster?  I have a CD II 60", on narrower warps I fly along but the lag time gets annoying.  I have a new computer so that is not the issue.  Exactly how did AVL adjust this?

If I recall correctly, there were two components.  One had to do with speeding up the electronics, which I think only they could do, but the other had to do with sensor and magnet position.  Basically there is a magnet inside the compudobby box that triggers a sensor, which controls the solenoids.  Actually I think with AVL there are two sensors, one for an open shed (which tells the loom to request the next pick) and one for a closed shed (which fires the solenoids to lift the appropriate shafts).  By adjusting the position of the magnet, you can make the sensor trigger earlier or later in the up/down treadling cycle.  I'm not sure exactly which direction you have to move it, but maybe that will give you somewhere to start from?

or did they give you directions for what to do. I'll be upgrading a new to me loom (from CD3 to 4) and hoped to just start off with the upgraded system, not having to get used to one and turn around to another. I'm hoping it's not going to take a lot of time or frustration.
