I'm not a new weaver but tapestry is something I've only recently started getting into.  I'd love to hear about the looms and yarns you use.

Hi,

I am also new to tapestry weaving.  I have been lurking in a yahoo group on tapestry (have learned a lot!)  and am working on a box weaving based on the Sarah Swett article in Handwoven.

I wonder if anyone here can recommend his/her favorite online source for yarns and supplies?  I have been ordering from halcyon, but they are way across the country and have a more general focus.

I have been using white cotton carpet warp as a warp thread.  It has been fine for this box weaving, but I have been reading that there are better choices for warp threads.

Thanks for starting this group!

I am awaiting the arrival of my 16" Mirrix loom. I have never tried tapestry before and am looking forward to learning how to do it this summer. I also have a 26" Baby Wolf 4 shaft.

Good morning!

I have been weaving for several years, and have recently been gifted with a LeClerc 60" Tissart tapestry loom.  I am beyond excited to be able to delve into the world of tapestry and have much to learn.  I value forums like this that allows shared experiences and inspirations.  Tommye, your site was recommended to me by Brenda of ArgoKnot.....I am speechless!!  Your work is amazing!!  I very much look forward to what happens on these pages and the inspiration that makes its home on my beautiful new (old) loom!!  Nice to meet you all!

Hi, I'm a new member.  I have been weaving for many years but have recently started tapestry weaving.  I love the idea of transforming my art and photography into a fibre related piece of art.  I also spin much of my yarns and use both commercial and natural dyes for my colours. I'm looking forward to networking with fellow tapestry weavers, sharing ideas and inspiration.

I moved from Australia about a year ago back to Ontario (Georgian Bay area) to be closer to my family. Anyone near Collingwood area contact me and maybe we can get together.

Thanks. Megan

Just dropping in to say hello...some of you I know from other groups, and it's great to see some familiar names!

While I've been weaving for almost 35 years, I'm fairly new to tapestry....seven years now, and not much to show for it!  I am unbelievably slow, and can remember a time in the 70s when I said I'd *never* do tapestry!  It figures that I'd have to eat those words...

I'm looking forward to shared inspiration here!

I have never weaved before but bought a tapestry loom yesterday at the Wool Festival in Estes Park Colorado.  The loom came with a starter package and manual but am looking for shops to take an actual class at.  I'm excited to start.

Does anyone recommend a source for tapestry yarn on the internet (USA). South Alabama is rather a hinterland when shopping for yarn other than Wal Mart, Hobby Lobby or Michaels. There is a shop in Fairhope but they don't carry tapestry yarn.

I've had my Penelope loom for maybe 20 years & used a canvas stretch for a loom in college. Still have the piece I wove on it.

I have several Swedish tapestry looms - these are frames with small nails on top & bottom. I picked these up in a box from a dead weaver's sale. The wool yarn used in these is very fine, but I haven't used them yet.

I also have two small portable looms (with their baskets of supplies) One I got from Convergence in Grand Rapids. These are great for small pieces.

I use linen for my warp on most tapestry, with odds & ends for weft. Its a pretty eclectic mix. I'm trying to use some wools that look hand spun & hand dyed, also from dead weaver's sales, in a larger piece set up on the Penelope loom. So far so good!

Happy Weaving - Joan

Norsk Fjord Fibers has a lovely tapestry weft in two sizes (I use the smaller of the two) in 150+/- colors. Noel is close to you too (I believe NC?). Here

She also has warp yarns.
