Notes

This is one of my favorite patterns.  I'm putting another together right now.

I wove it on my 4 harness floor loom.

  • Put on a varied warp.
  • Wove enough to ultimately make the neck facing and one sleeve folded back on itself.
  • Pulled off enough of the warp to be able to weave back through the warp, tie a know and leave a long fringe.
  • Tied an overhand knot with each 4-5 threads to secure the woven fabric and to have an interesting join later between the body of the top and the sleeve. Set the sleeve section aside.
  • Tied the warp back on.
  • Wove lower front body of the top using the same thread throughout for the weft, making a vertical stripe on the body.
  • Once, I had finished the body section, I laid out the sleeve portion to the left of my loom, spreading out the warp thread evenly and in order.
  • Then, one thread after another, I wove the thread through the warp to the right side in the same order as the warp.
  • Being careful to pull all the threads thightly up to the overhand knot, I knotted the same threads on the right side with another overhand knot, leaving the rest of the threads to be right side fringe.
  • Once I had woven all of the sleeve section threads through the warp, I wove the same length as I had earlier to make the back lower body section in the same manner (using one of the thread types, forming stripes.)
  • Once, I had finished weaving the back lower body, I pulled the warp forward abit and cut it off.

To finish the top:

  1. I cut the neck facing off the piece, zigzag stitched all cut edges for reinforcement and ironed fusable interfacing to help prevent reveling.
  2. Folded the entire piece in half along the middle of the interwoven warp section with the fringe on one side and the sleeve on the other.  This became the shoulder line.
  3. On the wrong side, I marked where to cut the opening for the boat neck.
  4. Placed the neck facing on the fabric, right side to right side, and pinned.
  5. Sewed the neck facing to the fabric along the lines for the boat neck opening.
  6. Cut the opening, clipped the corners, fused the cut seams.
  7. Turned the facing to the inside, ironed flat, then tacked down.
  8. I then formed the one sleeve based on the length that looked best on me and hemmed.
  9. Sewed the sides and the sleeve.
  10. Hemmed the bottom.
