In response to your request to introduce ourselves, I am a 63 year old retired lawyer now working as a lactation consultant and patient care technician at DC's Children's Hospital.  (I  think of it as being a recovering over-achiever!)  My husband and I have lived near Dupont Circle in DC for 35 years.  We have 3 grandchildren and hopefully there will be more to come.  I weave on an 8S Glimakra and a 4S Reed, plus an 8S tabletop Voyageur.  I especially enjoy dyeing my yarn

Currently I am looking for DC area weavers who want to get together in areas accessible to public transportation.  If you know of any, I can be contacted at [email protected].

Hey Arkansas Weavers!  I am the Complex Weavers representative for the great states of Arkansas, Oklahoma, Texas and Louisiana.  I am glad to connect with you guys and gals.  I currently live in Texas, but visit Arkansas as often as I can.  My sister has lived in the Eureka Springs area for 20 years, and we all consider that our second home.  I look forward to hearing more about this group, and would be happy to answer any questions you may have about Complex Weavers (which is an international weaving guild.)

Hi,

I'm the year round program director at the local 4-H camp here in Central Massachsetts. I also teach "Farm Products" at the summer session. Because the economy is so bad here my programs have been cut considerably as there is no funding. I teach an afterschool 4-H program 2 days a week thru the school year. Mostly the kids use my spinning wheel, a Louet, to try their skill. My hubby made 22 drop spindles but the kids, who have some "issues" don't do as well with them as the wheel. I would LOVE to teach them to weave this year at camp. I'm soooo very new to weaving so am not sure what I should start them on. I have no budget $$ so would have to pay for this myself. My hubby is a carpenter so wood would be an option if we need to build.

I have felting on the schedule for the summer, as well as weaving. Any other ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Lynn

Beautiful!

I actually have this book, but haven't even opened it up yet - mainly because I don't have three heddles of the same dent yet (nor two of the same width, for that matter).  But now I see I'm going to have to get that book out *and* my credit card. :-D

Now, should I buy the extra heddles for the 15" loom or the 24" loom....

Nancy -   I am happy your doing moderator duty but I'm not sure I'd always let Lillian have the last word...perhaps occassionally but not always!     : )

ps.  I will post one of my favorite taquete pieces once I figure out how to do it.   It's not intuitive...at least for me.

Hi I'm Kathy from the Ann Arbor area.  I'm new to weaving but seem to be getting lots of looms.  I've taken a weaving class at Forma in Whitmore Lake.  I have a LeClerc jack loom, a Dorset floor loom, two rigid heddles, weavettes and a pot holder loom.  I just can't stop getting looms, :-)  I mostly have just made scarves but have bigger ideas in my head.

I also spin so that is why I wanted to learn to weave, my yarn stash is growing faster than I could every knit with it.  I look foward to finding out what others are doing and other fiber events happening around Michigan!

Hi, I've had a Glimakra for about 16 years and love it!  The people at www.glimakraUSA.com have written a wonderful book about setting up and weaving on a countermarche.  They are also very helpful with questions.

Hi ,

Can you give more info on the Lamb and Wool Festival in September? When, Where, What etc.??

I'm looking forward to the Fiber Festival in Charlelvoix at the end of July. It's a great place to hold a festival. Lots of shopping in air conditioning - rain or shine.
