I was inspired by Terri of the Saori weavers ruffled scarf. I had handknit an angora scarf for my daughter for Xmas. I found weaving the scarf much more interesting especially with the FREEDOM of Saori-style weaving. I tied up my 8 shaft Mighty Wolf to only the first 4 shafts one shaft per treadle (direct tie-up) so that I could use both feet to play with different weaves. Because I used some stripes of perle cotton in the warp I was able to gather (like in sewing) by pulling the top 2 cotton yarns on both sides of the center inch of woven fabric. Because it was so long... I gather from both ends. The perle cotton was sturdy enough to pull without breaking. This scarf looked the same as my 1st Saori scarf before I gathered it. I like the softness of the ruffles. You can make them tighter by gathering it more. Be sure to to the gathering BEFORE wet finishing it in Pantene shampoo and conditioner. The scarf was 94" x 5" before ruffling and 54" x 4.5" after.
