Picking up Laura Fry's question about weaving resolutions in the My Corner of the World thread...does anyone have weaving resolutions for 2012, and if so, what are they?

I have two weaving goals for 2012: FINISH the project (Autumn Splendor) that I've been working on since April this year, and write more articles for Handwoven.

I have a few other textile-related goals:

  • trying to minimize waste in my projects by buying only what's needed for the next step (instead of anticipating needs which may not materialize - that results in buying a lot of excess stuff),
  • writing a book on craft
  • studying fashion design/pattern drafting, which I expect to be my main focus in 2012.  I want to learn how to create my own patterns for handwoven fabric, rather than having to rely on what's published commercially.  I've made a strong start on it this year, hoping to do more next year.

What are your goals for 2012?

HAPPY NEW YEAR !!!!!!

going to continue to work on my weaving skills. I am not abandoning my rigid heddle but I am going to take floor loom classes this spring, as well as spinning. Spinning an weaving are two things I've wanted to learn for years abd I finally have the resources near me to make it happen. Until I can afford a floor loom of my own I will continue to explore the possiblilities of the rh loom.

I am going to work on sculptural weaves, get a good handle on blocks and try some alternative materials to include in my weaving. I've been reading Theo Moorman and there are some fascinating concepts and I'd really like to get some hands-on on a Jacquard Loom.

Happy New Year to all, I wish you all prosperity in health and wealth!

My top resolution is to say no to taking on any more board or other time-consuming guild or organization jobs.  Next is to do more designing, writing, and enjoying the advanced class I teach.  Like Charles, I would love to weave on a jacquard, but, with cost considerations I will probably confine myself to designing for one and adapting it to my 32S loom. Weaving more is always a good resolution for me but it needs to be more than throwing the shuttle on something I know will work.  So, maybe the resolution is to weave and fail often to be sure that I am pushing the limits of my understanding.

Happy New Year!

First: Resurrect My Loom!  It has a long way to go before it is ready for anything, but then...

Second: Spin and dye the wool in my stash for a Summer and Winter Coverlet for my bed!

Third: Weave it!!

I think that will keep me happily occupied...

I will make a bastidor cuadrado/square loom like this one from Graciela Foradori's blog and learn to weave on it.

I would also like to make and weave berets on circular loom like this one from Graciela's blog.

Have a joyful new year!

This is a 'just' resolution - you know the one where my wife says will you just pull the wallpaper off the room. When you do the plaster comes off which means replastering which means the plasterer spill his plaster on thecarpet neccesitating a new carpet and when you replace the carpet you find the floorboards and joists are rotten and need replacing.

So - my resoltution is just to weave something on my floor loom. (In order to do that I have got to build a shed to put it in which means getting and breaking down old pallets, getting some windows from somewhere, finding a heating source Then assemble the loom possibly repairing it along the way and then just weaving away -no problem

Best Wishes for 2012

My goal is reducing my waste of yarns! Just working with all the yarns I have collected over the time. Exspecially spinning  Shifu for weaving. The Kozopaper, the Sarisilk and many handspun and dyed fibers are waiting. So many projects just in my head waiting to be woven.

My resolution is to use some of the silk and wool yarns I got when I bought a loom.  They are nice Silk City silks and Henry's Attic wools.  I have one large bin of each and have been waiting for the "perfect" project.  I think I've waited long enough (it's been several years) and I want to stop being afraid of using them.

I hear ya, Paul!  Quite the runway, ain't it?

I've started a "365 Project" on my website.  (Or is it 366 since this is a leap year?)  Every day I am posting something to do with what I am doing creatively.  It can be my website, any of my spinning, knitting, designing or weaving activities.

It's at: http://feathercreekdesigns.com/?page_id=63

My main resolution is to continue my tapestry diary process into the fourth year.  I just posted to my blog about the finish of this year's diary pieces, as well as giving links to postings I made about the diary work during 2008, 2009 and 2010.  Here's my blog link about it all.

I only resolve to weave my wife another (new) bookmark she has asked for - otherwise I still have "stash" I need to figure out what to make with and do it.

In 2011 I wove my first 4 shaft rep weave project.  It was something more complex than I had ever done.  So many warp threads!  For 2012 I resolve to pick another weave structure that I feel is beyond my current knowledge and attempt that.  Maybe 8 shaft rep weave!  Or a project from the Jennifer Moore doubleweave workshop I took.  I love those square in a square pillows.

I'm scheduled for back surgery later this month.  My resolution is to get pain free so that I can weave again.

I have a few resolutions for this year.

1. To learn spinning so that I can make my own yarns.

2. Participate in many more shows this year.

3. Learn to double weave

4.  I weave everyday, but hope to stay more focused on originality in my work.

Happy New Years to All of You.

keep us updated on your spinning and dying progress.  I'm especially interested in the coverlet.

I'm always amazed by your simple looms that produce great weaving.  Please, let me know how you remove the yarn after weaving without having it come apart.

1.  Spend more time at the loom,

2. Sit and figure out the back strap weaving that I love (hope to have a live class in it),

3. Spin on my much neglected wheel,

4. Try to be more proactive and involved int he weaving community.

My goal is to start posting projects. I need to get over fear of sharing

I'm also interested in your coverlet project.  I'm working on a similar project, myself.  I'm spinning up a bunch of Romney, some natural greys, and some dyed in two shades of red.  I want to make some kind of cover for my bed.  I hope to have enough yarn for two blankets.  I still don't know what structure I want to use.

I am resolved to weave these blankets this year.  I am also resolved to purchase the 60 inch reeds for my Glimakra.  It is sitting with a little 40 incher.  And to install the other four shafts making eight and use them.

Well I seem to be on track to complete all my resolutions well before the year runs out. I am amazed, I don't think this has ever happened to me before.  Even the jaquard has become a reality, a resolution I thought would be in the for off future!
