I just found this group.  John Campbell is my favorite place!  I've taken 8 week long classes and 1 weekend class.  Because of life getting in the way, I missed a couple of years and when I walked into Keith House it was like coming home.  I highly recommend going it's like summer camp for adults.

Shari,

Please give us more details on the classes you took.  Are they all weaving classes?  Who were the teachers?  Where did you stay?  Is it all dorm living?

I hear the food is very good, what did you think?

I would love to go and I would love to hear more about your adventures.

I have taken Hammered Dulcimer, built a chair, Chair Seat Weaving, 3 Tinsmithing, Felting, Woodturning, and weaving.  My husband went with me 3 times and took Guitar and 2 watercolor classes.  A non artist friend went once and took a collage class two other friends went another time and took hammered dulcimer and cooking.  No complaints from anyone.  The only hotel-like sleeping rooms are in the newest residence hall, Field House.  The other residences are twin beds and may have baths down the hall.  Most housing has a living room area also or there is a library in the Keith House.  The food seems a bit heavy on the Mediteranean side (which I'm not fond of) but you can request grilled chicken ahead of time or eat the vegetarian dishes.  I have never gone hungry!  I've been looking at classes to see which I want to take next.  Once I marked all the weeks that had something I was interested in so my husband could decide what to take.  I marked 27 weeks and the catalog only covers about 8 months.

Glad you enjoyed you stay at the Folk School.  I think it is a very special place, so much in fact I moved to Brasstown 11 years ago to be near the Folk School.

What weaving class did you take?

I don't even remember the name of the weaving teacher.  It was two years ago and just a weekend tacked on to a week of tinsmithing.  It was enough though, I came home and bought a second (or third) hand loom.  For a little over a year I've been taking once a week lessons at White Rock Weaving Center in Dallas.  I'm hooked!  I've also been a member of the Embroiderer's Guild of America for 15 years so I really enjoy textiles.
