Hi all......just wondered how everyone who attended the recent MAFA conference at Gettysburg college enjoyed the weekend?  I was a teacher, so my perspective on the whole conference is narrower than most, but I had a great time and thought the organizers did a fantastic job!  The college is a pretty good venue, despite construction.

I am most curious to hear about the pros and cons of the conference, as I would imagine the organizers are as well.....these conferences are **ours** to make what we will of them.....

Anyone have any feedback??

Su :-)

"did you enjoy mafa?" (RE: Su's post)

ME TOO!
Inquiring minds want to KNOW...

I checked the MAFA site for info, and then this was my second stop.

I am working on my guild newsletter, and want to put something in there about it, but no info can be found...HELP!

Re: Did you enjoy MAFA?

Posted a report!  Would love to hear what others have to say.

Also: I'm collecting photos for a slide show to be posted at the MAFA website/shared with the guilds.  (NOTE: This will not happen instantaneously; I'm kinda technologically challenged.)  If you took photos at the Workshop Weekend and are willing to share, please contact me at [email protected].

I was thrilled with my class with Sharon Alderman and enjoyed the open studio tour, fashion show, vendors and spending time with weaving friends. I was less than thrilled with the dorm, bed (even with a mattress pad), dining hall (food and service) and tightly packed classrooms.

If MAFA stays at Gettysburg again next time, I hope that new building they were working on (with construction crews blocking some roads during move in) is a new student center/dining hall. I also hope the college's conference staff communicates better with its dining hall staff so everyone knows how many diners from all on-campus activities to expect throughout the weekend. Peanut butter and jelly wasn't really what I expected for Saturday night dinner. Dorms with elevators would be most welcome, as weavers, spinners & dyers rarely travel light. I'd also look for a nice place to congregate after the evening programs. While the roomy suites had nice common rooms and kitchenettes, the maze of a building didn't encourage large-scale mingling or happening across an interesting group discussion.

All in all, the volunteers are to be commended for assembling such a top-notch lineup of instructors and working so hard over the past two years. The level of instruction was superb. As for logistics, let's face it, what we want and need in a conference facility is not easy to provide at a reasonable cost, and the challenge MAFA volunteers' faced in finding a new conference host late in the game without raising fees was considerable. Thanks to all who made this Workshop Weekend possible. Here's to seeing you again in 2011! Note to self: pack two mattress pads.

I just noticed that Bearweaver's comments and my comments are on the intro page where this thread about the conference started.  Any way to consolidate so group members get the whole response picture?  Thanks.
