We are reviving the beginner backstrap WAL with 3 simple proposals using different combinations of vertical strpes and horizontal bars PLUS ONE NEW OPTION-a warp float pattern on a background of horizontal bars.
We will be learning to weave a triangle and diagonals on a narrow band and then exploring the different ways that simple triangles and diagonals can be put together to make more intricate designs. Two triangles joined base to base make a diamond. Add some diagonals and you get this...............
The blue and green design project is an adaptation of Mapuche designs-these are woven by the Mapuche people in a supplementary warp technique and I have adapted them to this warp float method. You can see that the design is basically made up of triangles and diagonals.
The red design at the top of the page is an Ecuadorian design-again...many triangles put together.
I NOW HAVE A BLOG ON BACKSTRAP WEAVING!
