These are two parts of a three-part series that I am weaving based on a pre-columbian bird motif. I am about to warp for the third. Part 1 on the right involved creating white bird shapes in ikat on a black background and then filling in the shape with pick-up patterning using the Andean Pebble Weave structure.
For the Part 2, I wove the entire piece in Andean Pebble Weave and divided it into two sections...black pattern on white bird background on a black ground and vice versa.
The third piece will be the opposite of the first. I will use ikat to create a black bird shape on a white background which will be filled with pick-up patterns.
The third piece has me a bit nervous. I need to make sure that the birds have the same dimensions as those on the first piece and have more wrapped warp than exposed. I am trying to think of ways to short-cut all that wrapping.
