Very nice weaving and congratulations if can follow through by viewing the weave structure rather than relying totally on a pattern!

Good for you for persevering with weaving without the chart. It usually means a fair bit of unweaving and this motif is quite tricky as you need to remember when to start the inward serif as you say. It is quite easy to get carried away and just go on weaving the diagonal, right? Thanks for posting this and for describing the experience.

Notes

After my last backstrap band (Lesson 3 in Laverne's e-book) I knew I needed to learn more about how to warp efficiently and really know the pattern without the charts. I decided to try another design before forging ahead. It was definitely a positive learning experience. I still had a little difficulty getting the warp set up right between the warping board and the loom. But it was better than last time. I started weaving and used the chart for the first pattern. I was determined to figure it out on my own after that. I did not do so well for the next three motifs. Two of these can be seen at the bottom of the picture. I omitted a row in the middle and the last part of the "S" does not have its inward serif. I also encountered another problem. Because my pattern weft (yellow) was slightly smaller than my background weft, I had a little trouble picking it up in the right order and ended up with crossed wefts. After redoing my heddle strings (a couple of times!) I finally figured this out. However I am pleased with the fairly delicate look of the pattern. And from then on it was smooth sailing and great fun without ever glancing at the chart. The center of the picture shows the backside and the top the final end. Time for lesson four.
