is this the same as honeycomb?

Honeycomb is different from M's and O's. The drafts are different and the interlacement, too. Honeycomb (in North America) has outliner threads which deflect and it has cells which usually have a thinner weft yarn. On the back of honeycomb fabric there are weft floats between the cells. Ms and Os looks the same on both sides of the cloth and is a good choice for a scarf. (The term "honeycomb" is used in Europe and the UK for what is called "waffle weave" in North America. It can be confusing!)

Bonnie, thanks for explaining the difference between M's and O's and Honeycomb. The latter is called "hullbragd" [weft with holes] probably because the cells look like holes ;-). M's and O's is beautiful in wool. Waffle weave I suppose is "vaffelvev" in Norwegian too.

Notes

From Handwoven January/February 2010.

Used floating selvedges, although I hate them. It was a new pattern so I didn't know what it would do.
