I just received two cones of beautiful 2/20 wool that I want to use for a scarf. Thinking of using the RH for this, but I am new to this loom (only have done one scarf using 2/8 tencel).

Can anyone provide insight into the best way to select appropriate warp? The wool I received is pretty tightly spun, suggesting it is more appropriate for weft. I have only one heddle for the RH (10).  I can experiment, but this wool is just lovely. Don't want to waste it.

Ideas/suggestions out there?

Thank you!  Nancy

Your 10 dent reed is far too coarse to use one strand as warp, but 2 or even 3 in each slot and hole would make a light and airy fabric.

Tightly spun yarn is suitable for warp - you want the looser yarn in the weft.

OK, as I look at the wool I was given it is a two-ply. It is described online as tightly spun, however, it breaks easily. So this clearly can't be used as warp.

Any problem with selecting a similar weight wool that is stronger? I found some alternatives in my stashes that would work as warp assuming that I use the new yarn in two or three strands.

Am I making sense?

You probably could use a stronger wool as warp.

However, do not class this 2/20 as unsuitable for warp - used 2 or 3 strands together it would most likely work.

Even if it pulls apart very easily? Obviously, this is assuming loose weaving.

I am constantly amazed how much I realize I need to learn -- I've been weaving for 3 years now and still feel like a beginner. Sigh.

It's the old 'united we stand, divided we fall'.  :)  Double or triple the yarn and then give it a tug and see if it breaks as easily....
