Hi

I have been looking over my Varpa Karelia loom and noticed that there is a hole in the warp beam pawl that I think is to attatch a string so it somehow can be released from the front of the loom.  There are also 3 little holes on the frame only on that side (by blue arrows) that might have something to do with releasing the pawl from the front. Maybe some sort of metal eyes are inserted there?  Anybody have any ideas?

Thanks again!

Some of these looms came with a release lever - or you can string Texsolv cordthrough the holes to achieve the same effect.

My personal experience has been that on looms the size of yours, the release levers are sort of effective, but getting up and adjusting tension at both back and front each time makes for better results.

I've used such a thing once (and never again ;-) - I found that the pawl never seemed to "fall down" at (what I thought of as) the right place... but maybe I'm just a control freak?

Because of the high tension generated on a countermarch it is sometimes tricky to get a release mechanism to work flawlessly.  The best one I saw was on a different type of Varpa where the warp relase had a sliding lock which could be released from the front of the loom.  It is not always a bad thing to have to get up and stretch out while you advance your warp.

Thanks

Maybe I'll just get up and advance it myself.......
