I am a total weaving newbie (~10 days) who had a brief "lesson" and wove some samples on a borrowed Dorothy table loom.

Then I got the wild idea to check craigslist and found a very reasonably priced (at least it seemed so to me) Schacht 4 shaft floor loom circa 1988.  So I had a nice little drive today and picked her up.  It seems the woman who had her for a couple of years never wove.  And it seems I am missing a few screw and bolts but she seems to be coming together.  (There was a quick trip to the hardware store this evening and another planned for tomorrow morning.)

I am a little confused about attaching the brake.  The assembly instructions from the schacht site tell about adjusting the brake but I'm not ready for adjusting until I figure out how to connect it.  There seems to be more cable than I know what to do with.

With the loom, I got the bench, and a warping board and a bobbin winder.  And a boat shuttle and some other stick shuttles (sorry, I'm not totally up on the weaving vocab.).

And there is another "part" that came with, that I believe is not part of the Schacht, but is a Brittany tapestry loom.  There are some other extra parts that I haven't figured out, that may be related to the Brittany.

Hi, Patternwhisperer, and welcome to Weavolution.  If you have not done this already, get to know the Schacht Spindle Co. website.  They make an extraordinary effort at product support.  Here is a document I think may help with the friction brake, but if not, the website has other manuals here

Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be a weavolution group specifically for Schacht floor loom owners.  You could, of course, start one.  We are all building this site together.

Thanks for the links.  I'll go explore and see what I find.

I looked for a Schacht group and didn't find one.  I wondered why there wasn't one.  Any other Schact floor loom weavers out there who might want to join me in a group?

I think the best way to get a group going is to create one here [The big orange "create a group" button on the groups page] -- something any weavolution user can do.  That way, it will show up in "recent groups" on the weavolution homepage.  The other option is to post your inquiry into one of the forums, such as the weaving forum or the chat forum.  Every weavolution user is automatically subscribed to those.  Groups, on the other hand, are self-selected.

One more point.  When you are creating a new post, you can send it to multiple groups/forums at once by holding down the shift key and clicking on multiple groups in the "audience" window  This is very powerful because you can cross-post to, e.g., a Schacht group and a general weaving group at the same time.  But it has to be used with care, or it gets annoying for other users really fast.

Glad you're here, and clearly intrepid. Enjoy the new loom!
