Greetings,

Glad to be part of this 101 group. As I grewup from the textile city, I have familier with fly shuttle and here is my doubt. Can I use the vintage fly shuttle for my 36" Harrisville floor loom?

As of now I weave cotton, linen, acrylic and wool yarns. But my ultimate aim is to weave fine yarns from India. Does vintage fly shuttle is too heavy for yarns? Or Please any other suggestion?

If you are talking about a mill shuttle with pointed steel ends; I have heard of people using these for hand shuttles, but I don't know why.  You could hurt your hands, and they are heavy.  They are made to travel a wide loom at high speed.  Not well suited for hand work on a small loom.

I think they are usually pretty cheap, but I sure wouldn't want to weave with them, even so. I guess some folks manage.

Use a slender boat shuttle with a quill and see how the weaving goes.  Then, if you have one of these industrial shuttles and you want to use it, you will see some disadvantages, as it is usually too tall for the shed and a bit too heavy for your hands.  Joanne
