I had a neat experience today. Someone complimented me on my new scarf. When I told her I wove it, she got a little excited. There was something about the look on her face that made me ask her if she wanted to learn to weave. She beamed and rapidly nodded her head asking "Can I?" So we may have a new weaver!

Here's the scarf. Details on my project page. www.weavolution.com/node/7295

Pretty scarf! May we have a close-up shot of the beads please? That hem is really neat - in every sense of the word!

I'm not surprised it caught someone's fancy. The sparkle from the beads would have been enough to catch anyone's eye!

Good luck enabling this soon-to-be-weaving newbie

This is a lovely scarf and a great story!  I hope she does take you up on this!  Also, I hope you get her to join Weavolution - there are so many resources here!

Congrats on such a pretty scarf,

Alison

Carie, Happy New Year! You have experienced the thrill of making something with your own hands. Be it weaving, knitting, sewing, woodworking etc that of being able to tell someone I made this my self. Your scarf is lovely, I know you enjoy wearing it and receiveing all the well found comments.

 Hi everyone!

Thank you for your kind words. We're trying to get our schedules together so I can teach her to weave.

Alison, I will tell her about Weavolution. This is a great site.

Michael, thank you for the instructions; I've edited my original post and added to my 'how-to' cheat sheet.

Caroline, here's a close up. I didn't realize how much the beads sparkled until I tried to photograph them!

Thank you for the close-up. Don't  the beads work well! I hope you kept a record of how you did it. The hem is great too. I must file your technique away for future reference!

That is one really nice scarf!

The gift of a plain weave, hand-dyed heavy wool handwoven scarf from my grandmother was the spark for my interest in weaving.  Weaving was about the only fiber (or other) craft she did not practice or teach in rural Maine.  I think if she had been younger she would have taken it up with me.  Through my beginning years she took great interest and gave much encouragement to my poor efforts.  You never know who or why your weaving may inspire, or how your example or encouragement may foster weaving or another artistic venture in those around you.

Your scarf is beautiful - fitting midwife to the (possible) birth of another new weaver.

I like the added touch of the beaded necklace to match the scarf. Very nice.

That's a lovely scarf, and the beads are a perfect finish.
