The first project I'm going to do on my resurrected 48" Macomber requires an 8-dent reed. I have two original 48" Macomber reeds, a 5-dent and a 15-dent, and a new 50", 10-dent Toika reed. Are Macomber reeds still available? I've started calling around to yarn shops, but am finding the closest they have in stock are 46" reeds. I'd really like a 48" reed. Recommendations on sources and types of reeds? (Finding some have plastic caps, etc.)

Glimakra makes good reeds and can cut one for you to any length. The 48 inch 8 dent runs around $115.00 according to their web site.

Yes, you can still get reeds from Macomber. A 48" is $96 according to the price sheet. BUT! I wholeheartedly recommend Gowdey Reed. Jim Wilson is wonderful to work with and the turn-around time is very fast......like less than 2 weeks for a custom reed. Their prices are better than I've found anywhere else, too. Available in carbon or stainless steel. I'm almost positive he can beat that price. I've ordered at least 8 or 9 different reeds for different looms from him. (He even made a custom reed for my little 8" structo.) www.gowdeyreed.com Connie
