I'm weaving  up the fabric for the coat part of my wedding ensemble, and it's so pretty I just HAD to share!

More info on it can be found on the Weavolution project here: http://www.weavolution.com/node/6458

It's woven with a 60/2 silk warp sett at 60 epi and two strands of a metallic gold weft.  The pattern (which I devised) is a traditional Asian/Tibetan motif called the eternity knot.  So it reflects a wish for a marriage that will last a lifetime.

Just wanted to share!

Tien, on December 18, I will be married to my English weaver for 33 years. My hope for you is that you will be married for an eternity. Your coat is captivating. If the coat looks this good I can not wait to see the dress!

PS have you shipped my goodies yet? (g)

Hi Tien,

It's one of the most amazing fabrics I've ever seen.  The motif you chose is so perfect for a wedding.  I hope that your marriage is the 'eternal knot' for you.

Beautiful! You could use the scraps to make some kind of wedding favor for your guests.

Is this the piece we were voting on? Look like you went for even horizontal/vertical spacing. what helped you decide?

Tien that looks amazing I'm always amazed at weavers who work with such fine yarn 60epi thats 24epc the finest I weave is 10epc or 25epi but I am happy with 8epc I think its because I started out as a rug weaver.

So can I ask how fine others weave?

The finest weaves I have done are about 28 ends per centimeter. That was a very fine wool.It must come very close to this, but was not nearly as subtle a weave (see my project signal-red scarf, if you are interested)

 Tien,

It's coming along spectacularly, in spite of all the problems you've been encountering with the metallic threads.  just gorgeous.

LOL!  The finest I've woven is 96 epi (which is what, about 24 epc?), but  it was tough going.  I wove my dress fabric at 72 epi and that went much better.

Yes, this is the same piece I was asking people to vote on - I went for medium horizontal/vertical spacing.  To make the final decision, I draped the various spacings over a custom-made, duplicate-of-me dress form, and looked at them.  The small spacing was a little crowded looking, the larger spacing looked too big for a 5'0" body.  But the medium spacing was just right, so I wove it up!

I'm currently in the midst of weaving up my first "sample" - about 2 yards of the stuff that I will weave, cut off, and wet-finish so I can hold it up to my body and get a sense for what large quantities of it will look like *on me*.  I think I should be able to reach that point by next weekend - I'll post another photo of it then!

Thanks for the kind words everyone.  :-)  This is a very long-term project for me (150+ hours into the project so far, probably another 150 hours to go) so it's great to get the encouragement!

Mmmmmmm!  That fabric is just about edible!  I'm so hoping that you will be able to wear this for more than your wedding!  You will be an amazing bride.  I hope you will post pics of the wedding, which takes place when?

Imagine making pretty little pouches from your sample material, putting a couple of your luscious homemade chocolates inside and giving them to your guests. It would have to be the first wedding where the guests get a piece of wedding cake AND a piece of the bride's dress!!

Funny, Laverne, how did you know I was planning to do just that??  I'm planning to do little pouches, made from scraps of the dress material, with scraps of lining on the other side to make the yardage go further.  I'm having chocolate transfer sheets printed up with the double-happiness, eternity knot, and Mike + my name on them, and am planning to make pieces of chocolate to go into the bags.  A nice keepsake for the wedding guests!

The wedding will be June 12, which gives me enough time to weave 20+ yards of fabric for the coat (my loom is only 24" wide so I have to weave twice the  "normal" yardage) plus sew the dress and coat and wedding favors.  I hope, anyway!

Ah, well you know what they say about great minds, he he! :-)

You seem to be well on the way to getting this finished and having a bit of time to put your feet up. The very best of luck to you and do keep us posted!
