I am finally introducing myself (I haven't had alot of internet time lately, and when I do have free time, I have been weaving :)), my name is Kim and I had an opportunity to meet Laverne at Convergence ABQ and see her beautiful work in person.

I loved the look of the andean pebble weave, and when I got home, I had to get Laverne's book!

I have started working my way thru the lessons and I love it! Here are some pictures (showing front and then back of each woven piece) and a few notes:

Lesson One from Andean Pebble Weave: I decided to set my warp on my upright (navajo/dine - style) loom because of my son, he is six and mischievious (sp?), and I needed to be able to remove weaving quickly if needed. I did the narrow band, introducing pebble weave and then moved onto trying X and O, using pick up method by hand. The pattern are 2 revolutions wide.

Then I moved onto Lesson Two, weaving a wider band, and using string heddles. I do see the advantages of using the backstrap set up, on an upright loom, the band is under constant tension, and it would have been nice to release the tension a bit when changing between sheds. The above and below pictures are patterns that are 4 revolution wide.

The bands pictured above I did a mirror image in hopes that I can place them in a future project. Just practicing!

I was anxious to try the 8 revolutions patterns, so I am working on that now, and will be working on wider borders too! My weaving is getting better and I hope to switch to using a backstrap this upcoming week.  More to come :)

I am trying to find information on this site.  The links do not seem to work.  I am putting on a small backstrap piece to weave me a band.  I am just going to use a sport weight cotton.  I am having trouble navagating the information...any suggestions.

Kim! THese are great!! I hope you will let me show them off on my blog.

I can't tell you how nice it is to have sold the book to you personally at Convergence and now find you using and enjoying it. Thanks so much for posting here!

Let me know if I may use your pictures.

Laverne,

Unfortunately I didn't buy the book at Convergence, I downloaded it when I got home after wishing I had purchased it from you! I can't tell you how much I love working my way thru it! It's like magic watching the patterns in pebble weave appear.

I was also happy to see a pic of me at your blog - i took the backstrap weaving class, and even thou it wasn't exactly what I thought, it was alot of fun, and I met you then!

I have now worked thru 4 of the 8 revolution patterns, and will now move on to learning how to do horizontal lines.

Thank you for putting together a fantastic and fun book! And yes, you are welcome to any pictures :)

Aha! So you were in John Colony's class with the Harrisville backstrap kits. Okay, now I remember you very well. I actually had you confused with someone else! Yes I put a picture of you, Dawn and others in the class on my blog. I take it that weaving at Convergence wasn't your first weaving experience. I think you are very wise to practice the pebble weave on looms on which you already feel comfortable before trying it on a backstrap loom. You have really done a great job.

Thanks for letting me use your pictures. :-)

Hi Kim, Wow! You're off to a great start with Laverne's book -- or maybe at this rate you're finished already?!?! I've also been working my way through Laverne's book, but not nearly at such an impressive rate -- no fault of Laverne's, I'm just working at a turtle's pace! I also have a mischievous 6 year old son, and totally understand the need to drop whatever and run at a seconds notice. He also is a contributing factor to why I get things done at a "turtle's pace" -- the constant interruptions can slow things down a bit. I've also had the pleasure of taking a class from Laverne, but not a Convergence. I'm sure that was a very inspiring atmosphere. Plus, just to top it all off, and to make the introduction official, believe it or not, my name is also Kim! Here on Weavolution I've just been going by "Clay2Yarn" -- that might make it less confusing. Well, it is nice to meet you. Your work has inspired me to untangle my strings and get back to work! Good luck & keep the great pictures coming! Clay2Yarn

I am laughing because I am imagining us both shoo-ing our sons away. My little guy is so interested in the string heddles and I break out into a sweat when he touches them! Lately, I let him spin away on my spinning wheel, and he keeps occupied with that!

I wasn't sure how I would do with the pebble weave technique, but i can honestly say I am now addicted (my son started school on thursday, so i had some time to myself, i should have been cleaning).

When I saw Laverne's stuff at Convergence it was absolutely beautiful. And I was so overwhelmed at Convergence, I don't think I really understood what a big deal it was until I got there, and I met people that have written books that I use! It was so cool. I love fiber arts events.

I mentioned to my husband that we should try to plan a vacation around the next Convergence - but he'd have to watch Wyatt! I don't know, we'll see.

I strung a wide warp this week (50+ revolutions), and hoping to do some string heddles tonight! I'm almost a little scared (I had to try one of the 22 rev patterns). Wish me luck..... and give your wee one a wink :)

Cool! You will be the first one to report here so far on one of the 22rev patterns. Looking forward to seeing your project.

Laverne - I wanted to let you know I found a typo on one of the 8rev drafts, it is the last draft on the 8 rev page (pg 68), i didn't even notice it until i wove it, and something didn't look right - 6 rows up from the bottom or the row below the 2nd p2 row!

I'm loving your book :)

Wow! A 22 rev pattern! Wow! Good luck! I loved to see some pictures when you're done -- or during would be nice, too. I'd love to go to Convergence sometime. I've never been. However, unless it were near a baseball stadium, I couldn't talk my husband into that vacation plan. Hope it works out for you. Where is the next Convergence, do you know? I don't spin, but now after hearing your distraction idea, I'm wishing I had a spinning wheel for my son! Is your son actually spinning fiber? That's amazing if he is! My son's pretty good at making knots, but not the actual decorative kind, just the kind to cause frustration! School starts next Monday (I'm looking forward to next week!). Again, good luck with your 22 rev endeavor! A wink for your wee one, too!

Oh, yes I see it! there are 3 reds instead of 2. Hopefully I won't cause people too much agony with this and they will realize that everything always happens in even numbers. You have no idea how many times and how long I squinted at these charts! Thanks for pointing it out...the beauty of e-books..I can change the file!
