Can you believe it, another month come and gone. Time for a new check in thread. Everyone is being so productive, keep up the good work. Weave on! Tina

head out the door for the last day of the workshop. I slept great but am still exhausted! Using mucles my body didn't know it had! I am excited to finish my projects and get them off the loom. I want to see them all in one piece instead of in sections!

I have been weaving like crazy. Hooping to finish project today. No, I am going to finish today and post it tomorrow. I converted a huck lace placemat pattern from a 4s project to using 2 pick up sticks on the rh loom. I did a sample first and was pleased with the results so went on to the project. Oh, the alpaca/silk shawl is half done. Now using a stick shuttle to prevent the shuttle falling through on pattern sheds. Happy weaving (sorry about the typos, on my pad) Claudia

sally orgren

This pattern is more challenging than the first, but I am finally getting to the point where I am recognizing when I have made a mistake.

The diamond is the center of the warp. You weave to one end, flip the warp over (and use a safety pin to keep the "right side" up), pull out the starting stick, and continue weaving! You can see I am maintaining two sheds. The black threads curled at the top are the last warp-to-become weft pics.

I am using a stick shuttle clamped down to the table so I can give the weaving threads a bit of a tug for more consistent tension.

Great job Sally! Like it much! Is it March already????? You know what that means??? MS&W is just around the corner ladies. BTW Claudia, Bruce says hi! Be sure to stop by and visit at the booth!

Everything went smoothly.  The weaving is not overly quick, it took me about 90 minutes to weave 45".  I struggled with maintaining a soft even beat and the low shed was challenging.  I think doing this with cotton/tencel/linen was a good way to start.  I did not have to worry about a sticky warp as the pattern talked about.  Wore my scarf to work today and received two orders!  Better run, the warping board is calling!

scarf lommyladi. I finished both of my projects in the tapestry class - well the second half of the class where we were working on floor looms. I took pics but they aren't very good. They are on my project pages. Once the projects are hemmed and I can lay them flat I should be able to get better photos. The Week with Joanne Hall was delightful and my head is bursting with information. My body is exhausted!

Erica

We started March working in the studio again, well sorting the studio. My time was spent reassembling my Glimakra!

As you can see it's not completely set up, but it's together. So I'm one step closer to weaving again! Thanks for continuing to inspire me to get  my loom set up again!

Weave on,

Erica

endorph

Erica - its looking good - I expect to see you weaving very soon!

I've just finished grading three sets of exams, so now I have time to dress the loom with a new scarf project, not to mention twisting fringe on a scarf I finished two weeks ago.  Yay for me!

ReedGuy

Today I've begun an experiment for my own interest sake from a concept that was discussed in other thread where Kerstin was giving an explanation and worked out an actual draft for the OP of the thread. We'll see how it goes. Meanwhile I was told my cotton yarn has now shipped for my table cloths, bed spread and runners. This little sampler will tide me over, it's a very short warp so not really any beaming involved. I will thread heddles tomorrow.

I've been weaving phoenixes for the last month or so with no particular design in mind. Now I have one:

I'm currently weaving the black/dark red fabric, hope to finish in a day or two. This will be my entry into the Pikes Peak Weavers' Guild's exhibit Firestorm, commemorating the 2012 Colorado wildfires.

endorph

this is wonderful - its been interesting to see your process on this piece and I am looking forward to seeing the finished fabric. Tina

ReedGuy

Outstanding Tien, and with documentation kept with the piece it (fire) will not be forgotten.

Artistry

Tien, amazing work, Thank you for posting!

Today I start weaving the towels! Yay! Except I know there's a mistake of 15 extra threads in there somewhere. Checked the threading twice and couldn't find it. So need to weave a little for it to pop up in the design. Then I can fix. I'll get to the bottom of it! I am so excited because the cartoon for the Tapestry Diary is coming along. Still needs to be tweaked , and I Love the colors. Ordered yarns yesterday. STill working on finishing the backs of the past Tapestry Diaries for the presentation in April. Husband,Ed, announced he wants to whisk us away to celebrate our birthdays ( yes it's a BIG one for both of us) this Spring! Yikes, I'm so busy BUT if you can't run away with your hubby for a week, what's life all about? So, Tapestry Diary maybe a little late this month:)

endorph

Mighty Wolf into the living room this morning so I can get it warped this afternoon - the living room is my "studio" until I can get the spare bedroom cleaned out. Th puppies come home from the kennel tomorrow so I am trying to get as much done as I can before they come home!

ReedGuy

Always enjoy seeing your avatar with those two lazy hounds. :D

Erica

I sorted the Paternya yarn I bought from another Weavolutionary. I also unpacked a box and found my drawloom DVD. Watched it all the way through. I think enough of it finally clicked for me to set up the Gljmakra with the drawloom attachment! Yeah! Well dine to all of you on your accomplishments! What a talented and accomplished group.

endorph

ReedGuy the puppies rarely look this peaceful! The girl is a ball of fire and won't let the boy lazy around for any length of time. Luckly I can usually wear them out with the dog park! I have the MW ready for threading. Will try and get that finished this evening . . . Enjoying one more peaceful evening before Chester and Clementine come home. Also wishing I did not have to go back to work tomorrow. Spending last week weaving everyday spoiled me!

sally orgren

Tien, I like how the smallest inset flames are the reverse color field as the background (or, perhaps the fabric flipped from a smaller motif in the same colorway.)

I spent Sunday helping a new and very infrequent weaver prepare a loom for a Jennifer Moore doubleweave workshop. I thought she did great—it was probably her third warp in seven+ years, 288 ends of 5/2, and she had it wound, beamed, and heddles half way threaded in 5 hours, taking some time off for a lunch break. We'll finish up Tuesday eve.

What did everyone else do, weaving wise?

endorph

to get a warp beamed on the MW and started threading heddles. 8/2 cotton, 456 ends- but an easy herringbone threading. I am still recovering from my tapestry workshop, so taking things slow. Hope to finish threading this evening after I get home from work.

Ah, you noticed! Yes, I flipped the fabric over for the smallest flames - I thought it gave a bit more variety this way.

I've actually redesigned the piece slightly, using real-life motif sizes for the simulation (using photos of the fabric normalized to their "real-life" size), to see how the phoenixes line up in real life. This is more or less what the "real thing" will look like:

You can see in the previous version that some of the phoenixes were cut off in odd places. So I resized the flames until the phoenixes could be seen clearly in the smaller flame and the larger one. The background still isn't quite right, but I'm less worried about that since I can adjust that after cutting out the flames.

I'm still noodling on the design, once I feel it's settled I'll do the cutting and fusing. I'm really enjoying this design!

Erica

I started reading through my Pdf's. I also looked into getting the Damask and Opphamta book. Thank goodness Complex Weavers has it in their library! I'll work on the drawloom set up the loom while I wait for the book. I also found the materials that came with the drawloom attachment and can work on those patterns too. I'm also going to search around for some possible medieval designs to weave. Great work Sally and Endorph! I'm very impressed. Sally I hope your friend will join Weavolution and the fun! :)

Artistry

Got the cartoon for the Tapestry Diary done. Started weaving on the tea towels. These are my variation of a shared leg M and W, cottonlin, they aren"t actually that wide! Only way I could take a picture in my studio.

endorph

are going to be beautiful Cathie Tina

sally orgren

So the M & W's are very appealing to me, too! Just the kind of treadling that keeps me interested and the warp enjoyable—

ReedGuy

That pattern is coming out nicely for the towels. Did you mention the yarn weight?

Today, I just received my 16/2 and 8/2 cotton along with Donna Sullivan's 'Weaving Overshot: Redesigning the Tradition' and my 16 dent combs for my tension box. I should be busy for the next little while. :)

Artistry

Thanks Tina. I'm doing 3 different colors one for each towel, this burnt orange, a darker green, and some sort of blue. The warp is two colors of pale yellow, one sort of butter the other is a little yellower .

Artistry

Thanks you guys!

You're right Sally, a fun pattern makes all the difference!

ReedGuy, this is 60%cotton and40%linen 22/2 , 3170 - 3300 yds.per/lb

Have fun with all your new goodies:)

endorph

over half of the heddles threaded for my dish towels. My back was telling me it was time to stop - I'll finish it up tomorrow evening.

sally orgren

Not really, but almost! One of my guildmates found a blog describing this lost craft, so we had to try it. An oldie but goodie I am told. (Hey, it was new to ME!) And what self-respecting weaver doesn't have a ton of 5/2 pearl cotton in lively spring colors just lying around? All you need is some starch & flour...

ReedGuy

Looks like a good time Sally.

I am going to finish threading my experiment today and see how it goes from there.

Artistry

Erica, good luck with the Drawloom! I've always wanted to learn! I hope you have fun with it! Too much fun Sally! Like the stripes in your towels Tina . ReedGuy, Experiment? You work fast if it has to do with that 16/2 &8/2 you got yesterday! Nothing like a new project:) Today I'm working on the Tea towels. Then working on the backs of Tapestries, sewing slits, trimming ends, whip stitching the ends close to the edges so they don't pop to the front! The radio will be on:)

ReedGuy

Cathie, this is wool/acrylic that I began a few days ago. This time of year I like to concentrate on different things. One is making my daily walks to get the joints moving, so weaving is not fast paced for me, it's more snail's pace. :)

ReedGuy

The forum stalls a bit at times. :)

endorph

credit for the stripes - I didn't feel like winding a warp so I bought one of Joanne Hall's towel kits. I really like the colors in this kit.

ReedGuy

Cathie, I find that the forum will take the post, even when it stalls out for some reason. It can be a little frustrating. Currently, it must've gotten over the hiccups for a while. :)

Erica

I cleaned up the extras the server posted. Our provider is moving us to new servers, so hopefully we won't experience this hiccups much longer! My daily weaverliness was trolling Weavolution! Oh yes I did renew my Complex Weavers membership and my book loan has been mailed to me!

tied on last night and get about 8 inches of the first dish towel woven. More weaving planned for this evening if life stops getting in the way. What is everyone else up to?

Grethe

Almost done, then I'll work with my crepe project.

warpology

The weather has been cold and some snow so I'm weaving on the loom in the house it has  a pretty 16 shaft lace heart design. I plan on moving the megado with the lace on it out to the studio and moving the Glimakra inside. It is really fine so I'm picking away at it to get the loom nakid again. Then I will just need one computer to drive the looms out there.  Stay warm!  Lois aka warpology  The pattern can be seen here:  http://warpologynotufos.wordpress.com/2012/10/30/weaving-weaving-weaving/

ReedGuy

Sap's running here in the sugar bushes, but today it's not a good sap day here. Just barely above freezing and cold wind.

Been messing a little on the loom with a sampler. Slow weaving.

Leslie M (not verified)

Was a good weaving day here in eastern PA! Managed to thread and sley loom for double weave workshop on Monday and weave a yard or so on a new warp of alpaca/wool from a local spinning mill. The weft is cashmere. The sample has a wonderful hand! Picture is on my project page.

Artistry

Leslie M, beautiful sample! Alpaca and cashmere must feel wonderful! Lois tried to get to your site to see your lace hearts, but alas couldn't make it:( maybe I'll do better after more coffee, it sounds lovely, I hope you'll post a photo! This morning I'll be weaving more Tea Towels. Then warping the Mirrix Tapestry loom Because.......my tapestry yarns came ! yay, and the colors Are outrageous !
