It was pointed out to me that today is the beginning of a new month - Welcome August! Weave on!

YAY jlread! Nothing like having a loom rearing to go for a new project!

The loom will be going to its' new owner next week....

but today I have to break down and vacuum the place! Yikes, I let it go way too long especially with my cat still shedding. I would rather be weaving but you all know how it is, I wait as long as I can. I have been working hard to be ready for an open studios event in October. I am learning so much since I am weaving so much. I don't know that I'll have as many pieces as I'd like but there will be choices. Cathie, love your tapestry! Do you get as much draw in if you weave each of the three parts all at the same time? That's how I avoid it since I don't like to stitch up the slits. Well back to the vacuum, just 2 more large rugs to go and I guess I'd better clean up the front bathroom, sigh. Well, I am thinking of weaving!

House guests coming for the holiday weekend with a 2 year old and 6 month old in tow. Wow. I need to sit on the floor in each room and see what is going to be an "attractive nuisance." Shall we take bets on how long it will take before someone finds a dust bunny the size of a rabbit?

endorph

the size of rabbits - found 'em here! Now that my company has left I need to get the spare room back to being a craft room - and maybe, just maybe, get a warp on the MW

Walkingquail, Thanks! I have been so neglectful of that tap. Only weaving on it bout 1/2 hr. a day because I'm so dang busy stitching up the backs of taps. And mounting them. Ugh, boring! To answer your question , I would hope I would have less draw in if I did the weft straight across, no slits, with lots of bobbins. LOL but one never knows! The long slits are hard for me to control but this design dictated it. I think i must not of spaced my warp well, because the long slits in my other pieces recently have been o.k. Possibly it would have been a good idea to have " sewn as I go" in stead of waiting until the end. I could have done a clasped weft but then I'd have a serrated edge. I think a clasped weft maybe every 5 th pass? Might have helped and I think I'll try that next time. I also think I could have used two bobbins in the center part instead of one, that usually decreases draw in. In fact I'll start doing that tomorrow:) Did someone say Dust Bunnies? I thought they ALL lived here :)

ReedGuy

Yeah, dusting. Weaving is very dusty business. LOL I have one of those handy Dyson rechargeables for around the loom.

Actually my rule is I " try " to make the trash can when I warp and weave each project. Then I get to finish it sew, or fringe or whatever, again trying to make the trash can. ( I like to work fast, embarrassing!) then I clean up after each project with a swifter, if I'm in one room, vacuum if in the other. Takes 5 mins. But it's the NOTES, the endless notes I write to myself about the projects, that I rarely compile, sooooooo bad! Lol I do keep all my scribbles though! What do you do for notes?

The colors and textures remind me of crops!

Cathie, my system seems to be always evolving. It used to be a spiral bound notebook, and I would tape/staple stuff to pages. One notebook would last a year or two with many projects. Fun to flip through, but they look very messy.

Now, I am using mostly loose sheets of paper (copy paper, lined notebook or graph) to sketch and plan, then collecting the project stuff in those clear sheet protectors. That way I can see what's in each pocket, and there is usually enough room for sketches, printouts, swatches, threads, needle weavings, etc. And they are highly portable & light weight for travel. I just bought a 3 ring binder to keep them in—purple for band weaving patterns, green for shaft loom patterns.

So far, I am liking this system better, as prospective projects (that many never get woven) can go in the binder, too. This helps collect the project notes and make them more useful for future reference, even if I don't ever get them all more organized and "pretty". Typically I am checking back to former projects for sett, take up and shrinkage info, which sometimes might be on a little 3 X 3" memo sheet separate from the project planning notes.

I want to add that this is one thing I LOVE about Weavolution. If I am project planning on the road, I can visit the site on the fly from my phone (without having to fire up the laptop) and check past projects for data.

Also, if I meet a stranger and we talk weaving, it's a great way to show them projects I am working on without having to take up space on my smart phone with a bazillion images. (I want to save that space for new, cool stuff I may encounter—not stuff I have completed!)

I too, would be curious to hear how others keep records.

Sally, your flag looks like a wonderful garden scape! Great job.

Yes Sally , my notes are not pretty! I have been using spiral notebooks, one for floor loom weaving, one for tapestry. Red Composition notebooks for dyeing. One for Natural dyes one for Acids. My dye notes are excellent, I credit studying with Karren Brito for so many years! Then the folder of computer designs that are experiments not woven yet. Then each piece gets photographed . Now I'm working on exhibit files, so I'll have a record of dates and places of exhibits. Should have done that a long time a go. The sheet protectors are a good idea because I always have wrappings and little notes, good thinking! jlread, your flag is awesome! I love all the colors and textures!

sally orgren

Gee...I never even thought of THAT.

Right flag....wrong weaver...thanks for the cudos anyway...actually I was inspired by your outdoor weaving and gave it a try myself.  My next flag is on the loom!

My bad....the outdoor weaving was done by Kendrick 43...sorry.....(@~@)...

endorph

comment about your flag - sorry for the confusion. NO weaving today - I did make a trip to the weaving shop - does that count? And I realized I need to make a new page for September - Where has the summer gone?
