Bolivian sash

This is a design from the eastern lowland part of Bolivia where I live. The Guarani people weave hammocks and bags with representations of stars and snake skin designs. I learned to weave this structure with a teacher in Huancayo, Peru. She is pictured above with her loom tied up to the rose bush in the garden where we had our classes.

The sash has a series of stars. The inner part of the star varies and each star has been woven twice reversing the colors. Most of the inner designs are my own variations of the Guarani pattern.

The sash has three selvedges and the cut end is finished with four-strand braids.
