Aunt Janet (not verified)

This is a cool project.  I took a workshop from Robyn Spady a couple of years ago and warped my loom in bumberet.  I made my 7" sample into a baby jacket for my granddaughter.  Her little brother is wearing it now.  I then warped some of my handspun handdyed wool yarn in bumberet, wove it into a fabric for a jacket yet to be constructed.  Towels is a great use of this structure.

Happy weaving.

Notes

The draft I am using came from a Color Forecast project in Handwoven Magazine, Fall/Winter 04-05. However, since then I’ve found it in The Weavers Draft Book and Clothier’s Assistant by John Hargrove, published in 1792. It’s draft #11 on page 9 of this document.Hargrove’s book can be downloaded in its entirety from www.handweaving.net. Also, the bumberet threading is also found in Marguerite Porter Davison’s A Handweaver’s Pattern Book (the green book), where it is called John Murphy’s Bird’s Eye No 57 (page 14) and Joseph France’s No. 11 (page 15). Davison provides many additional tie-up and threadings to explore.
