help putting loom together Cambridge 4s 6t

okay, I admit it, I'm one of those people that bought a loom and has no clue.  So I got it home in pieces.  Now I'm trying to put it together with bad photo copies and quite frankly even though it says Cambrige 4harness loom on the side and has 6 pedals it doesn't quite look right according to the pics in the book on rag rugs handbook or the stuff you can find online from that manual lady and the manuals I can find.  So does anybody have a 6 treadle cambridge that could send me detailed pics.  Or should I post where I'm at.

and another thing, much as it had a rug on it, it's got a 15 dent reed,  6 inches tall.  Anyone know how tall they are supposed to be and can I put a 4.75 tall one in, it will adjust if i take the current reed out and go all the way to the bottom so that's not an issue, i'm wondering how it will affect weaving.  anybody have any 15 dpi patterns for rugs.  ok that was sarcasm. thanks. wendy who doesn't weave yet, but will some day, hopefull this winter.

Wendy, I've recently restored a Cambridge and have woven 2 projects on it thus far. Mine also had a 15-dent reed which is taller than my other reeds. I used a shorter 12dent threaded every other dent for 6 epi; set the reed it in the track and lowered the top piece, did not bother to drill more holes for the bolts to accomodate the shorter height. It worked just fine, no trouble with the reed jumping out with a very strong beat. I could try to take some close-up photos of loom construction if that would help you in putting it together.

BTW - my name is Wendy too

original poster here, nope it's not together.  It's currently in pieces in a closet.  I'll get back to it eventually.

The origianl question had to do with the height of the reed.  Does anyone know what height reed you are supposed to use or originally went with this loom?? thanks. wendy

I don't know the answer to that. But, the reed height will be a function of how wide open a shed you can make with the shafts (or more important heddle length) and distance from the reed the closest shafts are. For example, no need of using a 6" reed if you can only open a 4" shed.

I just started a FB group for the Reed Company looms. Here's the address:

The basic info about the group is below.

Reed Company and Newcomb Loom Company looms are sometimes very similar not only in style, but also in name. It stands to reason that issues and solutions to one company's looms will be found in the other company's looms.

Please let others know about this group, and Reed folks can also join the earlier (but not by much) established Newcomb group so we can learn from each other.

I'll be adding information and building the site over the next few days. If you have any PDFs of manuals, etc. please add them to the files section or PM me for my email address and I'll do it for you.
