At first sight i thought this must be a project of Ellen. What a gorgeous tablecloth.

Thanks Jeannine! Recognized again, eh? :-)

You must weave day and night!  All your items are lovely. Your projects are very recognizable.

What a fine example of quality handweaving!

Ellen (not verified)

Well I don't really. I weave quite a lot when I have a stay at my holiday house, where my biggest loom is, and when I come back from there, I post a lot of projects all in a few days, so it probably seems like that.

I really appreciate your nice comment, but I often do wonder when people say they somehow recognize a project as mine what it is that makes them so? To me they are just like so many other people's :-)

What a lovely comment! Thank you :-)

It's difficult to say which of the two tablecloths I like best. They are both so beautiful. I take it the dish on the table is part of the china you inherited from your grandparents. Regards, Els

by how fine your work is - both in quality and in threads per cm.   Wow, by my calculation this piece had 2176 ends!   I'm not sure I have that kind of patience.

Ellen (not verified)

That's right, it is from that set, and I think both tablecloths will be fine with this old white-blue china :-)

Thanks, Els

Thanks, Sally :-)

Actually there were a few more for the pattern repeats to be correct and then several ends of  floating selvedges :-)

I find this sort of thing nice to emerge myself into, almost zen-like, not having anything else on you mind and just going with the flow.

Ellen,  Are you using a fly shuttle on your Glimakra?  I enjoy weaving tablecloths but my arm gives out after a while!

Ellen (not verified)

No, I don't have that. But I had to use a bigger and heavier shuttle for this than I normally use, and then practised giving it just the right push to land it at the other selvedge, - and not on the floor, nor somewhere in the middle :-) I normally found the right momentum after a few picks, and with about 5 meters of weaving there was plenty of opportunity to practise.  But yes, weaving this did feel a little like a heavy workout, so I'd take breaks aplenty :-)

Notes

The second tablecloth from this warp is all white cotton. A finer fabric and probably more for very formal occasions, but I like it a lot.

It shrank more than the blue one and I had to use a temple, which I did not for the blue one (linen has more "muscle" to hold the width!)
