Your scarves are beautiful!

I love block designs and these are simple and elegant. The drape looks very nice and they are shimmery! Lucky people who get to own these!

I knew these were yours, the moment I saw the photo.  :-)  Beautiful!

How nice to get recognized :-)

Thanks for your comment!

I am wondering how it is to work with pure tencel yarns - how do they perform? I have read some complaints about yarns being extremely slippery..

sally orgren

I agree. More details on the tencel please!
What size? (10/2 or 8/2?)

Hi Astrotravellin and Sally.

It was tencel 8/2 and I found it easy, strong and pleasant to work with. My only complaint is that it is so hard to come by over here, I have to send for it from USA, Finland or Germany. Danish yarn shops just don't go in for it.

When you have finished the project, don't take what you get on face value. Wait till you have washed and ironed it, that brings out the drape and shine!

Thanks for posting your project. I have some tencel and was wondering if I wanted to do a block twill with it. After seeing your I have made my decision, block twill it is.

I look forward to seeing yours! What colours have you got to play with?

I would love to try to make a scarf like these. I have ordered some tencel in several complementary colors.

But I have searched all of my books, magazines, and everywhere I know of online to find the draft for this pattern/ structure / design or whatever it is called.

I just need to know what the threading, tie up and treadling is for a twill block scarf like this. Everything I find  for twill block or block twill is very fancy.

Is this too simple of a question that no one seems to present this information?  Or is this pattern a propriatary secret?

thank you anyone for your time and consideration.

I don't know what books you have avaiable to you, but in f.ex Strickler's 8-shaft  patterns you can find the basics for a block twill on page 55, tie up, threading and treadling. All you then have to do is decide how big you want your blocks to be and that then decides how many times you repeat the various elements when you thread and treadle.

If this doesn't help you enough, send me a PM, and I'll try to help you better.

PS I am glad these scarves inspired you :-)

Oh, Ellen, thank you. I've already been planning the "Drall" scarves #228 on page 55 of Strickler, but I like the simplicity of yours where the blocks are lined up instead of offset. It seems the threading would be different, or is it all in the treadling?

This will be my first block project and I'm trying to wrap my brain around all of it to visualize how the threading, tie up, and treadling work together. I'll probably do the Drall scarves first since the draft for it is already printed out. Unless I can determine how to thread for yours.

That is why I wanted to start with a fairly basic pattern and warp for 3 scarves, then make one scarf from it exactly to get the feel. Then on the second and third I hope I will be ready to experiment with maybe changing the tie up and treadling to see what else I can come up with.

(I want to work my way up to doing the "frost crystals" scarves in twill thrills p.47-48, but that pattern will have to be adapted from finer silk to the 8/2 tencel--getting way ahead of my self there.)

Notes

I had done this draft before, also with tencel, and they were so popular that I had none left for myself, so when a good friend gave me some of the dark tencel, I just loved doing more of them. On the last one I played a little with the size of the blocks :-)
