In the beginning of the project, I would slide the pick-up stick up to the back beam when not needed. As the warp was unrolled, eventually the stick needed to be tucked slightly under the fibers on the beam to hold it in place. Now, I am weaving at the last few inches. The warp is completely unwound.

How do you keep the pick-up stick at the top when the warp will not hold it?

I have space to get 2 more inches of fabric and could use it for fitting around my neck comfortably.

pick up stick pattern to string heddles and a dowel rod. That way you can get rid of the stick. Jane Patrick's rigid heddle book talks about string heddles.

Good suggestion. String heddles would work. I have woven on an inkle loom with those.

Right now I have managed the shuttle with one hand while the other holds the pick-stick up near the warp rod. My method is awkward and clumsy. Missed threads and floats are a consequence too.
