I started this when my Coils were getting old and were beginning to lose their epi. Starting with a larks head knot on the first warp, I would twine at the top of the warp right under the coil to the exact width you want the piece to be, then tie an overhand knot right against the last warp. This helps the coils be stronger and keep them from being stretched out of position. When you advance the warp, you just push the twining up towards the coils. 

This has been successful for me I usually do it with all my warps now:)
