Hi folks. I've recently begun weaving agian. Hooray! I was planning a project for my old Structo 4 shaft table loom and realized it only has 50 heddles per shaft. It uses inserted eye heddles. It will cost about 200 hundred dollars to add the number I would like to have. So, I thought, why not just buy a new talbe loom with more shafts and heddles already on it. What would you do? I don't have unlimited funds, but have a small amount to put toward my weaving hobby.

Thanks for your input!

See if you find a second hand loom that would meet your needs? Cheers Laura

How wide is the loom?  I used a 48" rug loom with 100 heddles on each of the 4 shafts without any problems.  When I wanted to weave something in finer warp, I had to add more heddles.  So be sure that you actually need more.  Also, $200 for heddles for a table loom seems excessive.  Where are you getting them from?  If you have a standard size, you don't need "Structo" heddles, just any heddles of that size.  Lastly, if it is a weird size, you can always tie your own.  Time consuming but cheap.

Thanks for the feedback. I think for now I'll keep this one and search for a used one. I did find 500 heddles for the Structo for $110. I want to warp it for the sampler in Jennifer Moore's doubleweave book (I have a friend that is learning) and it requires 288 heddles for a narrow warp. I've already added 800 heddles to my Finlandia floor loom so I can do the rep weave rug I have planned. I guess I enjoy weaving fine threads.
