What a fabulous idea - an International Group - I live in Canada and am a member of the VHWSG in Victoria, B.C.  I often travel elsewhere, and have wondered how to find weaving groups in the local area.

Unstrungwoman and other Weavo members, Although, I live in Cincinnati, Ohio my Father lives in Victoria, B.C.! I would love to come and visit some time and same goes here if you find yourself in these parts! I would like to meet other Weavo members too. If you can time it right ,our Guild meets the first Thursday of the month, but we have study groups always in between. There's always the yarn shop if the Guild House is closed :) or maybe it's the Guild House AND the yarn shop to visit! I guess, watch out, I have relatives all over the place:)

I live in New Jersey, but work for a company in Iowa, and my family lives in Arizona. This week I am in Minnesota, where I visited the Textile Center in Minneapolis on Monday, and I will be meeting the famous Janet Meany, (old loom website and autor of Rag Rug Weaving in Duluth on Friday!

Anyone know of any weavers in Toronto? That's my next trip—

There are a number of weavers in the Toronto area. Lucille Crichton, Marie Payne are just two. I'm in central BC for anyone driving north through BC to Alaska, I live very near the highway. Just saying... ;) Cheers Laura In currently sunny Prince George BC

Sally, the Textile Museum of Canada is in Toronto. I don't know what they have in their collection, but aren't all textiles good:)

Hello, I will be in Siam Reap, Cambodia in January, and am hoping to explore the silk weaving area which was hit hard during the Vietnam War. The silk weaving industry is struggling there to come back, and most Cambodian weavers use Vietnam produced silk now.

Although I'm more active in the Spinners' than Weavers' guilds, I can take you to meet both if you come through here.  Locally, we don't have shops that cater to fiber persons, but we do have fiber animals on the hoof and foot in plenty, and a thriving arts and crafts community.

I promise not to make you eat pulled pork or fried chicken unless you want it.  On the other hand, my husband makes nice smoked meats and even smoked tofu . . .

What timing.   My son just got an invitation to interview at Cambridge, and so I will be there in December (making sure he heads off well rested, with food in his belly and wearing clean clothes!).  I've been hoping to include a bit of yarn shopping, etc.  Will send you a PM when my visiting dates are confirmed.

I'm getting ready to move to Huntington, WV. I have found a fabulous group of fiber ladies. There is some serious spinning going on in the tri-state area. Finding a few weavers too. River City Fiber Clan meets the last Monday of the Month, but would welcome the opportunity to catch up with those traveling through the Mountain State! And if you never have, you really should come for a visit!

Does it get any better then that?  I'm heading to Cincy for a conference the first week of March.  Plans are to arrive Wed. night, teach an intro to weaving class for pre-conference on Thur.  and head home to WV on Sunday the 8th.  I hope to be presenting a session on Celebrating local celebrity in a museum setting by sharing the story of a weaver named Billy Bannerman.  I've submitted my proposal but won't hear anything for a little while yet.  The conference is in Sharonville and is for Living History Museum Professionals.  Perhaps we can meet up.

Group Administrator Here: With a new year it seems appropriate to check in with group members. Has anyone had a bad travel experience as the result of this "connections" group? If so, please post it here so that we all may learn from it. No flamming however. Also, how can we increase the use of this group. There have not been many respondents since it was started. Are there group trips you would like to see organized? What should their specifics be? E.G. Looking ahead, I'll be in AZ (greater PHX) and CA (near Riverside) in March, Texas (DFW) and Clayton, NY in May (Weaving History Conference May 16-18), Flagstaff, AZ end of June, and Providence, RI for Convergence mid-July.

Just starting off a spinning/weaving group here in the Barcelona area, Spain. We all come from different backgrounds (textile and nationalities) and we are trying to organise a once-a-month study group. The idea is for each of us to teach the others new skills. We've had a spinning class (and 4 of us are hooked), next is a crash course in dying wool using local plants in January 2015. I am planning a how-to-read-a-draft day for Feb 2015 (and I will probably be doing a lot of translation as I am the only English speaker).

We would love to re-introduce spinning and weaving into the area - it seems the tradition, which was large, has gone missing. Such a shame. But, we are a determined group and I am sure we would all love to host weavers lost in this corner of the world.

How about an update from those of you who have ventured out, especially those who have arranged and traveled together to explore the world of weaving?  Being a caregiver ties me down, but I'd love to live vicariously through each of you.

I just remembered that Suffolk/Norfolk, where I live were the centre of the English wool trade. I will be seeking out interesting sites and be doing some sight seeing in the near future, I will be sure to share.

My husband and I are traveling to Peru next month for 10 days.  We are on a group tour but have free time on our own.  I would love to check out some weaving studios and/or alpaca farmers.  We will be in Lima, Cuzco, Sacred Valley of the Incas (Awana Kancha), Machu Picchu and the Titicaca area.  Anyone have any suggestions for me?
