I'm looking to replace my darling of a loom that I left behind in South Africa when I immigrated. If anyone has one to sell, I'm interested. Am I correct that the only 36 inch CB looms out there seem to be made by LeClerc?

Now and then you can find a Glimakra Ideal in weaving widths of 32, 36 and 39 inches.

Hello Joanne, I have decided that the ideal loom for me would be the Ideal 100cm counterbalance. I have read on a forum somewhere that the Glimakra counterbalance looms tend to be little finicky to set up and if the settings are not perfect then the shed is not good. I would like to know from you if this is true and if so, how difficult or otherwise is it to set up perfectly. Thanks and merry Christmas! Robyn

A very narrow warp on a counterbalance loom can cause some minor problems.  This is true on any counterbalance loom.  I have instructions for how to deal with this on our website.

The counterbalance looms give you better sheds than jack looms and much easier treadling, so having to do an extra tie-up for a narrow warp is definitely worth it to get the nice sheds and easy weaving.

If you are interested in having more than four shafts, then many will get a countermarch tie-up.  If you have a traditional loom, like a scandinavian loom, you can start with the counterbalance and when you want to add shafts, you can add the countermarch.
