I just finished de-rusting (I hope) a reed which needs the tape replaced. Duck tape is too wide and is not fun to cut. Any advice as to what to use would be most welcome. Thanks.

Duct tape - been there and yes, it's not fun to cut.

For the last couple of reeds I de-rusted, I used some packing tape that Staples sells.   It has fiberglass embedded in it, lengthwise.  So all you have to do is put it where you needed on one side of the reed, wrap around the length, and then make a little cut on the other side.   At that point you can just pull the excess off and it tears perfectly.

Gaffer's tape is another option. It's about $30 for 180 foot roll. Black. Waterproof. Can get it at Lee Valley's website (US/Canada).

very good results using blue painters tape.  It goes on easily and holds up well.

I'm needing the same advice and was wondering what tape did you use?

I believe it was book binders tape, because it came in colors and had a cloth base. Today, I would consider replacing it with gaffers tape. Photographers use it. Like duct tape with a cloth base, but won't leave goo.
