When my loom came along there was a bundle of string which I threw into the bin. Fortunately before collection I realised they were the heddles. The reason I was going to throw them out was because a mouse had at some point made a nest in them. I have now untangled 647 of them and had to throw the rest away. However now I would like to wash them - without tangling them. Has anyone any suggestions?

Many thanks

Paul

Hi Paul,

Tie them into bundles.  You tie them just like you tie the lease cross when making a warp.  Then you can wash them and put them on the shafts in bundles rather than one at a time.

I would not use bleach on them, as that would weaken them.  But use plenty of liquid dish washing soap.  They may not look much better after washing, but you will certainly feel much better about using them.
