Hi Karren and all,
Would you say it would be impossible to start the color mixing excercise before we have proberly labeled our solid colors? I have to wait for poster to feel confident before notation on my cards.
If it is possible to start mixing, I'm not really sure where to begin! This is my theory - if it's flawed would you kindly show me the way?
Let's say we're doing the 5Y in the color chart -
1. Looking at it I'd say it's probably going to be ...at least this is where i'd start
Yellow/, value of 5/, chroma of 12
2. I'd measure my yarn and multiply that by the dos (ex. 5.0 x 2.5) = 12.5 grams of dye
3. Now i would take a mixture of Sun Yellow and add a little bit of Gold (ex. 80% Sun Yellow + 20% Mustard) = 10g Sun Yellow + 2.5g of Mustard
If it's not that, I label it according to the chart and determine which way it's falling which could be: these are the things i adjust?
1) too much red from the mustard - add less mustard
2) too high a DOS (lower the dos to How do i know?) THIS IS MY BIG STUMBLING BLOCK
it seems like it's a shot in the dark? maybe i'll get lucky? or should i know how to be more specific at this part of the class?
Could you walk us through how you'd approach this particular chip and how you'd trouble shooot? I know it's asking alot, but i need a bit more help. (i'm hyperventalating again!)
Thank you!!
Mary
