I'm not in Southern Oregon, exactly, but still in Jefferson Territory. Straight east of Mt Shasta in CA in Trinity National Forest. Coffee Creek to be specific, if anyone knows where that is. I do my shopping in Ashland & Medford and visit a sister living near there.

I mostly weave on small frame looms, but have a 42" Cambridge Rug loom which I've managed to get warped a couple times to weave two rugs and some sample stuff. I'd like to weave another rug, I have the rags cut up, but can't seem to work up the gumption to crawl down under there to string the thing up again & I'm not sure I know how. We had to move it, which meant taking everything apart. :-( . I'm not very flexible.

Welcome HazelRose! Any and all are welcome here and especially those that live in the fine State of Jefferson. :o) I live in Rogue River. Are you attending Black Sheep this weekend? If so, maybe we'll meet.

Hi Cheryl,

Not going to get to Black Sheep. We could not get a vendor booth this year... I lost my slot when we had Grandmother to care for and haven't been able to squeeze back in this last two years. Still trying. And Himself has planned a trip to Crater Lake for this weekend as he is having hiking withdrawal after this wet spring. I go along to cook! lol Well, I'm taking my looms, too. If I did go to Black Sheep I know I'd buy too much yarn for my already over stocked stash, always did.

Sis lives in Rogue River, too, and I have been a visitor to the spinning guild there a few years ago. Would I have met you there?

Have fun at BSG and find treasures!

Hazel - I know several ladies in the spinning guild but they meet when I'm at work so I can't join them. I did find treasures at BSG, mostly fiber. Bought a wonderful gray Romney fleece and a kid mohair fleece, some Crosspatch Creations blends, and a Pygora/Silk blend to spin, also some indigo and cochineal for dyeing. I took a class from Judith MacKenzie-McCuin on spinning for weaving and a class from Judie Overbeek on spinning boucles. Both were excellent classes that filled my head with enough information to keep me busy until the next Black Sheep Gathering.

Hi, I'm Cindie and live in Grants Pass. Thanks Cheryl for starting up this group. At this point I'm not sure how active I'll be -  don't like this format of having to wade through posts to find the latest.....would sure be nice if groups would be set up similar to Ravelry as far as posts go. If anyone out there is interested in the Southern Oregon weaving guilds please send me a message with your email address and I'll make sure you get the newsletter come the end of August - guilds start meeting up again in September.

You are going to be one busy girl, Cheryl! lol My wheel has been gathering dust for awhile but I think I'll be getting it out again soon. I would like to have a go at catching up with fiber stash! lol As if...! but I've also been saving brushings from my rag doll kitty and I'm curious to see how that will spin up. There's not much yet... most ends up on my clothes but probably enough to weave a 4" square. A test to see if it's worth keeping.

Your classes sound fun, too. I should sign up again for one whether we get in as vendors next year or not.

I'm with you, Cindie. it's very duifficult to find any new posts. One of the things they are working on, I hope. I think I'll add a note to the Founding Mothers... I'm sure they need one more thing to deal with! lol

I live in Gold Beach, on the southern Oregon coast. We don't ahve a guild here and don't get to meet many other weavers.

Welcome to the group. Seems like I've heard of a group in Bandon or Langlois that gets together. If any of them are on this forum maybe they'll fill us in on the groups that are on the coast.

Yes, this format is awful and I hope they work to make it easier to navigate postings.

There's a guild in Brookings - Webfoot Weavers. And yes, there is a guild that meets in Langlois. For some reason I was thinking there was something around Humbug too but maybe that's the Langlois group. And there's a guild in Coos Bay/North Bend that even has space in the Pony Village Mall if I'm not mistaken.  Cindie

Well, I gave up on finding a new home for that loom and decided to take the bull by the horns... or maybe that should be the ram, in this case! lol. Anyway, with the help of some ladies in the counterbalance group, I got the thing warped and am weaving a rag rug. It is looking rather free-form but I am, all in all, happy with it. Mostly I'm happy just to have actually gotten to it!

I have not been able to weave this week so far as I have had to be in the loom shop. We have been accepted at OFFF and also at Lambtown so Himself is building looms like a madman. But as he is off to town today & I might sneak away and work on my rug for a bit. I'd like to get it finished!  Homely as it may be, I'm excited!

Yes, there is a group in the Coos Bay/North Bend area, the Heritage Textile Arts Guild. We have a storefront in the Pony Village Mall. Meetings are the second Saturday of each month, excluding summer months. The storefront is open Tues.-Sat. 10:00 -5:00

Hi S. Oregonians and All,

I used to live in and around Grants Pass.  I'm now in northern CA.  My mom is still in The City of Rogue River, and I make frequent forays into southern Oregon.

Some of you will want to know me for my business, Aunt Janet's Fiber Mill.  If you have fleeces that you need processing, I may be able to be of service to you.  The best part of my service is that I pick up and deliver to southern Oregon.  I only charge a little  bit for that service to help with gas.

Anyway, I am also very active in my weaving guild, and the area weaving conference, Conference of Northern California Handweavers.  Southern Oregon and Northern California guilds might like to trade programs, or some such thing.  Maybe have a big fair together.  I did hear about the Fibermania fair in Grants Pass this November.  I had better check on that one to see if they still have vendor booths available.

Anybody planning to go to the Fibermania, or to Canby for OFFF?  I'll be at OFFF with a double wide booth on the lawn.  Look for my colorful felt, roving and batting.

I would also be interested in knowing about guild happenings in s. Oregon.

Aunt Janet

I’d like to take this time to introduce you to Fiber Fusion.

The 3rd annual Fiber Fusion will be held on October 11th, 2014 at Patrick Ranch (2 miles south of Chico).

Fiber Fusion covers most fiber arts:  spinning, weaving, dyeing, knitting, crochet, lace-making, basketry, kumihimo, felting, and more.

In addition to vendors, a fiber marketplace, demonstrations, hands-on activities, free mini-workshops and sheep dog trials, we are holding a Yarn & Textile Competition. No cost to enter, custom hand-woven ribbons will be awarded. The great part of this competition is that ANY fiber article can be submitted - even if you made it 20 years ago! You can find out more about Fiber Fusion and the activities on their website fiber-fusion.org.

Bring the whole family with you for an outing.  With lots of fiber animals at Fusion - from rabbits to yaks as well as sheepdog trials the children’s activity center, and the sheep dog trials, your family will be busy which means you can shop or check out demonstrations or take a free mini-workshop without being interrupted.
