I'm putting together an old Fanny.  She is coming right along  I might have to replace some bolts.  The bar that holds the treadles was  bent out of shape, but we managed to straighten that out, just fine.  On this oldie, there are two round pieces of wood surrounding the upper bar where the chords sit.  One of these is broken.  I will jerry rig a piece out of PVC pipe, for a temporary fit.  Hope I can get a replacement part for it. I should have it in working condition within a week. (plenty of other things to do)  I need this loom up and running the woman who works for me can quit wondering when she can get to weave on my Glimakra.  (Like maybe never.) My studio is filling up with looms!

I'm wondering if anybody knows how to date this loom.  It has a serial number, which should help.  I've been googling away trying to find the info, without any luck yet.  .

Have you sent an email directly to Leclerc?  They answered quickly when I was trying to find some info about my loom.

Thanks Amy, I'll do that.

Let us know what you learn about your loom!

My 27" Fanny or perhaps Series F? has no serial number, which vexed the people at Leclerc. They say they all have serial numbers. There is a "1" stamped on the frame underneath the treadles, but they didn't know what that meant.

Is yours up & running now? And have you checked with Camilla Valley Farm for parts? They seem to have everything. http://www.camillavalleyfarm.com/weave/loomparts.htm

I sold a Fanny a few years ago that had been built in 1967.  It had a red sticker on the beater with the month and year it was built.  So the age should be easy to find. I wonder if a previous owner removed the sticker from looms that don't have dates?

Aunt Janet, What size is the loom? I have a 36", old Fanny and have an extra top roller dowel. Send me a pic of the piece so I can see if we are on the same page ( if your loom is a 36").  ..............Steve, [email protected]

I can't seem to find a serial number for my 36" Leclerc Fanny - where is it supposed to be located?  I'm curious now about the age of mine....  :)

cheers,

Laura

I have looked all over my Leclerc and I can not find any numbers, the best that I can guess is my loom is from the 1940s or earlier I have the owner manuel that came with it and it was printed in the 30s.  the Leclerc seal on the loom is different from my newer loom, The back ground is black and does not have the weaving figure on it.  This is my favorite loom.  Steve could you take a picture of exactly where you found the #?

No number that I can see on mine, either.  The decal on mine is 'old' but it's yellow and red, not black, no weaver on it, just the name Leclerc.

Mystery!

cheers,

Laura

My Fanny has a number stamped on the front floor beam to the left of where the treadles attach. F45.701.38. So a Fanny, 45", 1938. My label is red and yellow with the name Leclerc.

Your description of where you found your number helped me find mine.  I could not see a number on it anywhere either.  But I went back and checked the spot you described and, I could feel a number stamped in there.  I got a paper and rubbed over it with a pencil.

Mine reads F45-210-80.  It is a 45", so according to your explanation of what that means, mine would have been built in 1980.  From the book that came with it, I would have thought it much older.  I do not see a date in the book, but it is quite old and yellowed, and I love the pictures of the women dressing the loom and tying up the treadles in their skirts and jackets, and white pumps with black toes and heels.  Mhy label is also red and yellow with the name Leclerc, with no weaver.

My serial number is F36-205-30, and it is also stamped on the front floor beam to the left of where the treadles attach. Thomas Beaudet, the US Leclerc representative, told me mine was made in 1950 so apparently the last number ceased to represent the year at some point. He was most helpful - you can find his email address on the leclerc website. (Edited to make the year exact)

Tom Beaudet was the person that told me mine was built in 1938 from the serial number. Interesting that they changed the serial number info.

Cathy, I don't think Leclerc has updated their manuals in many years. I suppose the basic info doesn't change, so no need to really, but they do look very dated, obviously typed on a typewriter.
